The ND Miata didn't have engine info released until a few months before it went on sale, expect the same here, so wait 2-3 years (or more) to get that answer.
i understand that ok. i was meaning about the skyactive-r engine they mentioned, wondering is it a 16x and this skyactive tech combo or any further info.

on looks alone i think it has done very well.

The "16X" as a specific R+D prototype iteration was shelved long ago, something a Mazda spokesman specifically said. That isn't a problem however, as it just means that they found newer and better things and kept iterating on the engine to develop it further.

I expect that the Sky-R (which is the iteration name they are on now) has the same physical dimensions of the 16X, but incorporates a whole lot more of what they learned from the Sky-D and Sky-G engines.

There are sixteen hi-res pix on the link I posted.

That long hood, if they keep it, leaves lots of room for better cooling and intercoolers and FI goodies, possibly. And it keeps competitors guessing too!

Looks to me like the hard redline is still 9000 RPM. And power band is more like 5500 to 9000 now.

"A special red chosen for the body color features both energetic brightness and depth. It
helps bring out the luster and contrast between light and shadow that are present on the
RX-VISION."

Glad to see they recognize the only color appropriate for a Sports Car Concept of such stature.

I'm picturing a small diameter 6 rotor engine under that long hood, sort of like a bunch of hamsters on speed going 8rpms.

Also the apparent 'too long' hood, my be a scale issue, if it's not that long it may be a visual issue.

The RX-EVOLV was a bit weird looking too.

Now that'd be something, a 6 rotor

I remember reading someone said it didn't have to be 2 rotors???

All true. The RX-8 pre-production prototype looked weird too. Fortunately they fixed the proportions before finally building the thing!

I'm actually excited about this something to look forward to in our sick sad world lol.

Specs are lining up well too.

RX8:LxWxH
175.6, 69.7, 52.8 wheelbase:2703

RX-Vision:LxWxH
172.7, 75.7, 45.6 wheelbase: 2700

We just need a weight and engine specs hopefully tomorrow. Most importantly a release date!!!!

It has to pass emissions first...

They totally need to tell us what's under the hood and that they didn't get the ECU software from VW.

Just getting myself ready! Knowing about forums when I owned my other rotaries would have saved me mountains of cash (small mounds are closer to the truth) and plenty of headaches...

I expect this time next year we'll have much more knowledge and a possible release date. I'm hopeful for a 2017 date, naive as that may seem lol

anyone else see the outline of the rx8 headlights in the i presume side/repeater lights in the front?

i thought that was a really smart design as they said they brought bits of all the sports cars into one design.

that bonnet/hood looks mad though, it'll be a bit shorter in the production run lol.

Tried to adjust the proportions a little to see what it would look like if it were more "production ready".

That looks great Tayler, something far more appealing to me, and realistic.
