Staggered tire sizes? So much for balance. Booo!

Though a 285 rear tire width would suggest significant power.

 

Not unexpected for a rotary with the 16x dimensions. A tradeoff of greater eccentricity for more torque is a decreased redline. It just means the power band would be more like 3k to 8k instead of 4k to 9k.

Keep in mind it's a style concept people... wheel and tire sizing is always going to be overblown, and no where near the final sizes

What is this "stroke" that you speak of? Isn't that for those obsolete "pist-on" engines?

 

Enjoy all the pics here, lads. It's a damn good looking concept. If it translate as well to a production vehicle as the rest of the SkyActiv cars, it will be amazing (that's if it goes into production).

Definitely won't be a production model, but I can envision what it might be like.

Obvious this thing is WAY far from production. Farther than the RX-EVOLV was IMHO.

If the tires are staggered now, they will likely be staggered if it ever becomes a production car.

The whole idea that Mazda would even consider staggered sizes is very disappointing.
The only reason for staggered sizes is an unbalanced car.
If I want that I can just go get a Camaro tomorrow.

 

the 16x dimensions make it a 'taller' engine than the 13b so the 'stroke' is a little different.
was supposed to help with torque and efficiency when the design was first shown .

 

It's a style concept, any powertrain in it would be whatever they had on hand to make it move around without them pushing it. It's possible it doesn't even have a drivetrain.

It's literally to gauge feedback on the looks. Nothing more.


The ND Miata didn't have engine info released until a few months before it went on sale, expect the same here, so wait 2-3 years (or more) to get that answer.

I would expect something in the 255-265 range all the way around when it's released. When, not if.

RX-VISION represents a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality; a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with exquisite, KODO design-based proportions only Mazda could envision, and powered by the next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine.
Rotary engines feature a unique construction, generating power through the rotational motion of a triangular rotor. Overcoming numerous technical difficulties, Mazda succeeded in commercializing the rotary engine, fitting it in the Cosmo Sport (known as Mazda 110S overseas) in 1967. As the only automaker to mass-produce the rotary engine, Mazda continued efforts to improve power output, fuel economy and durability, and in 1991 took overall victory at 24 Hours of Le Mans with a rotary engine-powered race car. Over the years, the rotary engine has come to symbolize Mazda’s creativity and tireless endeavor in the face of difficult challenges.
While mass production is currently on hold, Mazda has never stopped research and development efforts towards the rotary engine.
