The channeled muffler for the 6 definitely is a first for Mazda. Smart for them to integrate it into the steel stamping of the muffler to save on weight and production costs. The new Toyota Camry also has a channeled diffuser for the rear at that location but it is an add on plastic bit (think Suburu STi).
Good thing Mazda is still considerate towards performance with their low coef. drag aero bits. Look at the channeling for the brakes from the front under flaps.

they got a new 6 in my dealership and i got a chance to sit in it.
the car is big!
however, im not impressed by sitting in it
-leather felt paper thin
-door panel assembly felt fragile. no heft/solidity to it
-the top of the dash is soft which is cool, but there is a hard strip of plastic that feels really cheap to the touch
-motor for the power seats felt rough/choppy
-19" wheels. wtf?

Screw gas mileage
There's an entry on autoblog from late December that said they're in dealers showrooms already, but they dealers legally aren't allowed to let you drive them until 2013 because they're a 2014 model

I like the front, the back is.... I don't know if it's the lack of any highlighting showing the lines or maybe the pic angle, but it looks better if I crop off the back half of the car.
I guess it's that the back in that shot makes it seem like the back of the car is on a different scale than the front.
Edit: I'm gonna be picky. After all, it's not an 8 any more

the car is shorter than road version IMHO.
the road version was too big for racing purposes in road circuit (always IMHO).
the car seen in TV probably look like a production 6. this was the target.
BTW, a great piece of technology, can't wait for more detailed pics and final livery.
good work

The Mazda6 will also be the biggest car in GrandAm GX if the Nissan Altima in prep 2 isn't a coupe.

Kind of kicking myself for falling for the CX-5 just a little over a week ago. Had I waited two weeks, I would have gotten a fully loaded 6. It just LOOKS SO DAMN SEXY!!! Not to mention the 2.5L in it. Don't get me wrong though, I love my CX-5 .

I agree with RIWWP, car is to long. If they make a 2 door version, like the MX-6 with turbo and rear or AWD drive, I would think about treading in my Rx8!

Well the Mazda6 is in GrandAm GX Prep 2 class, which is a semi-tube or modified stock chassis that resembles production dimensions. It will be using a transaxle, so I wonder if it stays FWD.
The Mazda6 will also be the biggest car in GrandAm GX if the Nissan Altima in prep 2 isn't a coupe.

we'll see...i'm very interested to this car/engine. same for LMP2 diesel.

Rockie Mountain Newbie
I actually got to see the Mazda 6 (Meteor Gray) on Sunday, parked outside a dealer about 20 miles away from my house.
Nice looking car, that's for sure.

A good friend and customer of mine who owns an FD RX-7, 85 GSL-SE and a 2002 Millenia called me this morning to chat about the new 6. He drove it last week for 40 minutes on a test drive and LOVES it. He was quite concerned that the 184 hp would feel inadequate but was quite satisfied. He took it on a course that they use with lots of twisties and elevation changes and he likened it to the feel he had in a BMW 335 on the same road at the same speeds. He said the throttle felt odd in that it has two stages (Felt like you press harder past a point) but that the response was immediate with nice low rpm torque. He said the transmission was amazing and very direct also.
This was tested at Rick Case Mazda, Duluth GA by the way.
The 6 was originally meant to replace both the 626 and the Millenia but it only succeeded in being adequate to wear the shoes of the 626 in my opinion. The new one gets the job done and is worthy of the crown.
Paul.

saw one yesterday. A parent was picking up their kid at school in a black 6.
i saw from the side at first and thought it was an infiniti. but the front fascia gave it away.
looked mega sharp and long/lean with curves in all the right places
