The components are very similar to the CX-5. Just realized my CX-5 has an almost identical (if not identical) exhaust with a built in diffuser steel stamped case.

saw a bunch of wagon/sedans @ my dealer yesterday. very roomy, the interior is one of the best Mazda interior ever made since early 90's....offwhite leathers are gorgeous.

the car have a strong presence and beautiful style both in wagon and sedan version.

not yet available for testing , will be in a couple of weeks.

Mazda Motor Italy is sadly oriented to push ONLY diesel models here in Italy, no gas car available for testing by dealers....

I'm not surprised they're pushing the diesel engines.

excluding gas engines is a mistake IMHO.

not every motorist needs/loves a diesel.

my choice is on a gasoline car, not a diesel.

The problem is that the skyactiv G engines are underpowered when compared to their D counterparts. My opinion is that they only made them to make the dumb 'muricans happy since Diesel isn't really that common there.

Do what I did: test drive both a diesel and a gasoline cx5. The gasoline one loses under every aspect.

honestly...a comparo between a 2.0 NA engine and a 2.2 turbo diesel is biased. different engines for different purposes.

BTW the 2.0 have A LOT less NVH than diesel.

IMHO the 2.5 on mazda6 is another level about performances vs 2.2 diesel full power

The skyactiv D doesn't vibrate that much. Way less than our tiguan for sure.
The european market loves diesels... mazda's pushing them for a reason. I'm sure the dealership would also try to talk you into buying one if you went there asking for a 2.5 skyactiv g engine

Do you think i'm a diesel guy Matt? I have 2 gas guzzlers and a bike for when i feel like saving fuel (or i need to park in less than 2 hours... ). 50mpg are hard to beat. 4.2l\100km... lol.

my comparo is between the 2 cx5...no lemons allowed

my opinion is that european loves diesels ,ok..but Carmakers A LOT MORE...is fantastic to sell a 2-2.2 inline 4 in 20 or more models with no regards about the use that a single consumer make of his car.

there is marketing and economic motivation in this "diesel-love" here in EU.

people buy what is on the shelf.. automotive industry can "drive" customers where they want.

i'm less than 20.000 kms/year.... NO ONE can convince me that i need a diesel for that use

Don't a number of European nations have taxes (Financial penalties) related to displacement? I suspect that the 2.5 Sky G would be a hit, especially in 14:1 compression version if it were offered in most European countries, in terms of power/fuel consumption.

here in Italy the taxes are related to power output of termic engine (don't count if gas or diesel). is a medieval system that creates a lot of distorsions into market .

my choice on 6 is exactly the 2.5 gas engine

BTW...2.0 is 14:1 ...2.5 is 13:1

I know but would they not make this engine (2.5) in 14:1 if it was intended for European markets? Fuel consumption reduction and horsepower increase would both minimally occur simultaneously.

By the way, Mazda said almost 2 years ago that they were working on the next phase. I think it was 16:1 gas engines .

Europe does not get the 2.5L in the 6...which I think is a silly move.

Just like Australia does not get a 6MT in the 6...can you believe it, WE DON'T get a MANUAL!!!!.

I blame the fact that over the past 30 years you can now get your drivers license in an automatic, in my time auto's were not permitted, so you had to learn and get your license in a stick only.

Thanks for the video, Ash!

I can't wait to take the new Mazda6 for a test drive. I am hoping that my go-to dealership where I got my CX-5 will have them as loaners for when I drop the CX off for service. You bet I'll have a write up on it when given the opportunity of spending a day with one.

only in UK the 2.5 lacks...in Germany, France ,Spain and here in Italy is listed, mated only with autostick.. price here in Italy is attractive too...with the same configuration is 3000 euro less than a 2.2 175 diesel auto...

but..here in EU the % of autostick in these kind of cars are increasing fast....i think that a manual 2.5 will be choiced by very few customers...

@Mazmart: 2.5 is 14:1 in US?

We (Mazda North America) are set up for customers to run 87 Octane fuel in the US which definitely gives the most savings over time. I'm pretty sure the pistons are the same worldwide (PYY1-11-SA0). I just wonder how they would fear with a bump and higher octane.

Yeah it's really big, has a lame engine, and handles mediocre. But the look and interior are pretty great and the amenities are pretty awesome for a Mazda. My buddy just purchased a fully loaded GT. Oh, and they are expensive too, he paid over 30k for the GT.

Mazda's currerntly offering an additional $1k off for current Mazda owners to buy a new Mazda 6. If you're really pushy, you can combine that Owner Appreciation Award money with the $500 Mazda Owner Loyalty Bonus money to get a total of $1500 off a Mazda 6.

Still can't get a M/T in anything but a sport, that kinda blows. So far no dealers in my area know when it will be available in the touring

The engine is really lame, my girlfriends 2.5L Mazda 3S has more spunk. A manual transmission would help but it would still be pretty lame.

I drove the sport in an M/T, the clutch feels like a sponge to be honest makes driving it almost unbearable, and I have no interest in an auto.
