Good god, why would you go from stock RX8 tires to all seasons?

Actually, I don't think going all-season for Vancouver weather is all that bad of an idea... it's definitely easier on the wallet (1 set of tires year round).

I've settled into my winter tires, and they don't at all feel that much different than my stock Dunlops.. I can only imagine all seasons will be much the same. Furthermore, the snow here is so minimal, it's almost overkill to go with snow tires.

I still love my Toyo's.. but I think all-season tires are worth considering.

I've got a set of snowies and wheels for my 8. They're 17" rims, that actually look pretty good on the car. I'll try and get a shot of them up.

The set of summer tire wouldn't last me for the 4-year lease and this is the reason I go for all season hoping that they will get me through the winter as well.

Unhappy

i'm just gonna see if i can find some stock 17" mazda3 wheels/tires off of revscene. the all seasons that come with the 17" aren't the best from what i hear, but at least they're not summer tires.

i waited too long and the sets advertisted for CHEAP were sold already dammit!!! my bad though

i think ANYTHING will be better than the stock RE040's in the snow. i got stuck on the weekend trying to get into my garage dammit! :o

p.s. WTB: stock 17" Mazda3 wheels and tires :D

also, if you have a pretty big budget earmarked for your tires, a lot of people are recommending the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S All Season tire in this thread. from what people are saying, they seem like a good match with the RX8.

They're about $240 each Canadian from tiretrends.ca - usually the cheapest place around.

all the dealers I talked with regarding tires, (tire dealers) said that the grip we have on our tires are more agressive than all seasons would be anyways, so, with all seasons, we will not have as good of grip as we have already, but, regardless, all seasons are almost the same as winters for price, so, if you are worried about the weather, then get winter tread, safer in the snow/ice, and similar cost as the all seasons.
Just a few thoughts from what I had to find out when looking for tires when I went on vacation in the early fall to the interior, the coquihala had a nice snow storm on my way up, scary, when it was unexpected, but, I learned a few things about our tires, hehe

I think it's a no brainer if you want to buy non-summer tires to just buy steelies and winter tires, unless you don't think you'll go through 1 set of each before you hand the keys back.

you do know that for the 8, you need a minimum of a 17 inch rim for the stock rotors, as well, ithere is no garantee that all 17s will fit either, so, steelies... yeah.... NO...
better off going for aftermarkets for the summer/spring/fall tires, and use the stocks for winter tread, and in Vancouver, winter doesnt last long, hehe, at least, snow doesnt, but after seeing Titus' pics of the sea to sky and the trip to pemberton and lilooet with snow, man, I think next year I will get winters so I can join him on a drive up there.

I just bought a set of DP6 Motegi rims, and Pirelli 210 225-50-17 snows on Friday. I wish I would have done it on Thursday before I wrecked a stock rim. They are like night and day compared to the Dunlops. I figure that I will have the car for a long time so 3-4yrs for a set of tires will be good value. The stock rims are really weak...and due to the width, and the profile...they will make very poor winter rims. I hardly touched mine on a curb in a parking lot at work....and the rim broke bad.

Yes I do, and yes there are 17" steelies but my point was to buy something cheap for the 17"s

but, if your already gona invest in a 17, why not just put a little more to get a nice rim, since you know they have 17 steelies, then I am guesing that they are not common, which would still equal not cheap... although after going to 6 seperate tire shops when on vacation, they all suggested staying with my stock tires over all seasons, as well, they all have no clue of any steelies in that size, otherwise they would have brought it up, since I did ask, but if you have a plce to get them, cool, post it up, I am sure a few people would be up for getting them.

Well a cheap alloy that should work would be the Millenia's 17"'s. 400 bucks for a set of 4. You can buy steelies for BMW's, haven't had to find any for 114.5's though.

remember though, the problem with the size is the break rotor themselves, and lots of 17s wont fit, because the shape of the inside of the rim will rub against the rotor, so, if going for steelies though, it would be best to make sure they have been tested on an 8 beforehand just to be on the safe side.
