It's good to know I'll never be getting a warranty engine. I bought the car used in 2007 and the previous owner didn't keep oil receipts and I only have papers for the oil filters.

Should I have been keeping receipts for every tank of gas to prove I don't run regular 87 gas too?

I thought if you only go to one Mazda dealership for the duration of the car's life you should be covered....

or maybe not.

Wtf we gotta keep? Every single receipts of the oil changes???

I would assume that they are looking for a reason to not cover them......If you don't take it to the dealer or Mr Lube type place that records everything..it likely isn't good enough

If you have enough oil/filter receipts I would fight them on it..there is nothing that says you can't do the service yourself

seems like its gotten to the point to where you have to videotape yourself doing the oil change just to prove you did it and just didnt buy the oil/filter.

wonder if they will give me a hard time if i ever need to get my engine replaced since i have been taking it to the dealer i bought it at and not a mazda dealership even though they are both owned by the same person/company. bought the car at classic toyota (used) but there is a classic mazda less then a quarter mile down the street. i get 3 oil changes done for free at the toyota place after that i will take it to the mazda dealership

What's all this about oil changes....
I thought our engines were a sealed unit that didn't require regular maintenance.

Just push the goooo pedal

You guys are nuts

I have dealt with this kind of Mazda BS on so many occasions. Transmission, engine, you name it. To be quite honest, I think getting a story written on how poor the customer service is at Mazdas everywhere in Canada would really get them thinking about how much they can **** a customer, and have them roll over and take it.

After the crap I have gone through with this car, I can promise you I will never buy another Mazda. Fun car, but the hassle they give you is just not worth it.

Al, from your perspective what grounds do they have to void warranty on synthetic oil? What you've said may all be true, but do they not have to communicate to the customer "thou shalt not use synthetic?

Al mentioned that "every 4 months or 8,000km service" thing above. My Rx-8 is currently on storage, I will miss my "every 4 months or 8,000km service" thing for sure, so that means my RX-8 won't be warranty covered too??

Someone needs to have a discussion with the media on this.....After the Orangeville Mazda thing it might be perfect timing....

There seems to be a recurring theme here lately.....

Edited to fix dealer Don't want to point the finger at the wrong group of thieves

meh... if the car isn't being driven I don't think they can say squat. Insurance/milage etc can back you up on the fact the car isn't being driven and is in storage... as long as you get the oil changed right after you take the car out again.. you've been as responsible as possible.

When they say "or every 4 months," I think they can create an issue if they want to. They're explicit about following the schedule in that case. In most cases I think they like to be reasonable.

Every 4 months is crap...there is no need to change the oil that often if you drive very little.....

It environmentally wasteful as well as costly for no reason....

Damn... I bought my 8 from second hand... Dont have any previous service and oil change history... Kinda worried that my 8 would do the same thing to me =/

But would ppl really keep their oil change history for like 5 years?

i believe u r screw... mazda will look for every excuse to void ur warranty...
i provided receipt for 16 oil change.. including 2 of them with full document done at the local mechanic shop...
mazda canada only accept the 2 full document receipt from mr. lube....
engine oil receipt is not good enough....

so i highly suggest u sell ur car... now while it is working... or be prepare to spend the money on rebuilding ur engine.....
