it's all about numbers. Some guy at Mazda has to report some numbers on engine replacements and the few replacements that are done the better that person looks! Just push back on them and force them to honour it. They haven't a leg to stand on and the media would be very interested!

i flipped through whole manual but can't find anything about voiding warranty on certain engine oil

I originally bring the car in because it has the hard start issue when engine hot.
they ran compression test on it... but the average value passed their test at the minimun so they cannot change the engine for me..

so i contacted Mazda Canada, and the CSR from Mazda Canada get the dealer to schedule an appointment with me for another diagonostic and performed a complementry "de-carb" procedure

That evening when I picked up my car, the service rep at dealer said to me that after reviewing the number with the quality assurance engineer, they will replace the engine.

I was happy that night; however, next morning, another service rep from the dealer called me and asked me to provide maintenance records. I was kind of annoyed by them, that they could have told me last night when I pick up the car. However, with frustration I eventually gather all the maintainance record that I can find and forwarded to the CSR at Mazda ( tired at the way they treat customer at the dealer so thinking just deal with Maz Can)

few days passed with no reply after I send around 2 year worth of engine oil receipt (they wanted 4... i know... my bad... not storing everything...) and credit card statement of with the date that show my purchase at canadian tire (for oil filter). I even included the statement show my purchase of new sparkplug from sparkplug.com

I grew tired and e-mailed the CSR for an update last week... however, continue no response.

So I contacted him this morning, and finally get the answer that he told me he get an update last night. and was gonna call me....

He then inform me that because the service record I provided indicated I used synthetic oil on two of my oil changes.. therefore, the warranty is void... he told me however that the DM and the service manager at the dealer has agree on working something out on my repair because I am a loyal customer (family currently own two Mazda rx8 and cx7... and have buy Mazda car quite a few time before)

I then ask him to get the service manager to contact me about the repair.... whole day pass.... no respond still...

I really annoyed by the way of service that Mazda overall have...
and after reading the manual... like most said.... there wasn't any statement prohibted use of synthetic oil..... and I am 99.99% certain that I didn't read anything regarding that as well...

I am really frustrated... I can take badly train employee not servcing the customer well.... but when the whole company just don't treat the customer well??? I just wish I never bought their car

I love the my rx8, but I just hope it's not a Mazda... and I currently feel that I would never want to buy a Mazda anymore... not a rx9 nor a rx10... as long as it carried a mazda logo on it...

I'll wait till the service manager to call me... and ask him where in my owner manual indicates that I cannot use synthetic oil. and i guess go from there

wish me luck friend

You haven't talked to the company yet, just some employee that probably knows next to zero and just looking out for his bottom line. Go higher up! The lack of prompt response is just inexcusable in my books though.

My old mazda dealership got some eneos syn oil in and I asked about it, and they said they couldn't use it on rx8s. Maybe it is an internal mazda thing that hasn't gotten out to the public/owners? (not your fault by any means)

^ the dealerships are pressured by MC not to put in any oil type or weight that is not exactly what Mazda wants you to use. They tend to follow that as they don't want to risk being liable for engine replacement if MC denies it and they performed the oil change. They're just covering their ***.

very annoyed that he wouldn't talk to me....

anyway i ended up asking the csr currently on line with me regarding synethic oil and ask her to tell me what page it is on... she find the part that said synethic oil would damage engine on the 2009 owner's manual... i told her it is not on my 2004 rx8... and she told me that my original csr must be looking in to this... and will have an answer for me tomorrow..

They are full of ****. This is from a 2009 manual from Mazda Canada. Tell me where it says using synthetic will void the warranty or damage the engine.

Stop talking to these CSR's ... they have no power and they are more worried about how to handle you. Tell them you want there manager. And if that manager's breath smells like bullshit ... ask for his manager ... and so on and so on. Don't let anyone keep you waiting anymore and don't fall for bullshit!!

These people are not going to hear from you after all of this so stop being nice to those that are insulting your intelligence.

This is an old issue ... and they cannot win it. It is not your fault they are trying to cover their own butts! Force them to give an answer or take it too the press!

Look at who has responded here with the same consensus! Then look at how many hits you have on this thread! You have the support of those that already know!

Now get back in there and kick 'em in the *****!!!!

Just my experience,

When I purchased my mazda3 from Markham Mazda they were 3 months late on the delivery with very bad attitude, so I googled up Mazda Canada's CEO and his email address and sent him a letter while cc'ing the dealership owner. The end result was that I got my car in a week with additional incentives.

UPDATE

Warranty declined as the maintenance record not sufficient ( no explanation on synthetic oil void my warranty previously)

( 1 invoice of oil change at mr. lube at oct 2008 and 1 invoice at cstrol lub express at feb 2010 plus costco receipt of total 16L of engine oil purchase from oct 2008 to June 2009)

I ask for an e-mail stating the reason as I no longer want to talk with the CSR.
I will post it as soon as I received it.

sigh......

UPDATE

E-mail I received today.

Hello Mr. ****,

This e-mail is further to our telephone conversation of earlier today.

As you may be aware, Mazda warrants that your Mazda vehicle is free from defects in material or workmanship, subject to the terms and conditions in your 2004 Warranty Information Booklet for Mazda RX-8. In particular, there are exclusions to what may be eligible for coverage under Mazda’s Limited Warranty program.

Based on the facts available in your case, namely with regards to the nature of your vehicle’s engine concern, as well as the inadequate maintenance of your vehicle’s engine up to now, we have determined that the cost of engine replacement in this case would not be eligible for coverage under Mazda’s Limited Warranty program.

Should you have any additional information to provide in this regard, you may submit it to Mazda Canada’s Customer Relations department for further review. We can be reached during regular business hours toll-free at 1-800-263-4680 or at mciep@mazda.ca.

We trust that the above-mentioned information helps to clarify our position in your matter.

Regards,
*****
Mazda Canada Inc.

Count your receipts and compare with your mileage. Do you have at least enough oil changes in your receipts to do an oil change every 8000km?

If yes, state them all to them with dates and mileage.

If not, Charles at BHR does rebuilds for a good price...

they want 4 year worth of receipt... and from wat the rep told me... he want something with VIN and reading from odometer indicate on each time i change my oil and the record must show either every 4 month or every 8000km which ever first...

however, I just have right now 2 fully documented service record from the mechanic shop.. and 2 bulk purchase of oil for 12L + 6L = 18L (error on the last post) for around since 2008..

sigh... can't deal with this any more... maybe I should jsut trash the stupid car...

I have not weighed in as of yet but.................When I came back to the forums years ago we went through this debate again and again.

1st: It is not up to the manufacturer to prove maintenance history, it is up to the owner or owners of the vehicle. If you do not have receipts showing that you have serviced every 4 month or 8000 as stated in the owners manual, they can and will decline warranty.

2nd: I explained on this forum before why synthetic is not good for rotary engines, the main reason being the seals on the side plates deteriorate with synthetic oil. There are 2 different seals available, one is black (non synthetic factory) one is green (racing applications). We use the green seals in the race car because we run 20W50 synthetic oil. I used the black ones once and they came apart.

3rd: If you change from the recommended oils, use premix etc, it can be traced and again they will have the right to not honor the warranty.

Believe me I have no reason to side with the manufacturer on this matter, but after being a dealer for 22 years I have seen plenty of it.
