*URGENT* Mazda Canada Declined Warranty due to use of Synthetic Oil

Hi,

Sorry I would have search, but pressed for time.

My car has lost its compression, but Mazda Canada is declining my warranty to replace the engine. Because i have use sythetic oil twice on the receipt I provided them.

So I need all the help I can get to see if I can get them to replaced and fix my car.

Thanks

Richard

I dunno about Mazda Canada, but no where in the owners manual does it say you cannot use synthetic. That is Bullshit. Oh, and also 5W-20 is synthetic blend oil so the whole argument is BS. Read your owners manual, find where it says you cannot use synthetic oil. i bet it just says what it recommends, and does not say definitively that you can't use synthetic oil.

Precisely. There is absolutely no indication anywhere that non-synthetic oil is required. They will state that synthetic is not recommended but that is not the same thing as "don't use it".

Fight it.

What kind of oil...most aren't "synthetic" per say...you might be able to use that as a defense as well.

I would get them to show you on your user manual where it says not to use "synthetic" oil

It specifies a certain grade of oil...

Perhaps try calling up Mazda Canada and indicating that if they will not change their stance you will be contacting your lawyer. The TO Star ran a string of articles on that Orangeville dealership issue. Perhaps they'd be interested in writing a story about how Mazda is sticking it to owners of cars with low millage engine failures? Sounds like a pattern of behavior to me. :)

afai what city are you located, i may be able to help you out

Chris_Bangle 05-18-2010 02:18 PM

1) Dannobre makes a good point, most 'synthetic' oil is not really synthetic
2) Try contacting the APA: http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?lang=english, they either have a staff lawyer or will refer you to someone.

i live in Vancouver area in BC

Speed_8 05-18-2010 02:26 PM

oh im in ottawa my best friend owns the dealership here, let me make a call for you i'll get back to you..

Speed_8 05-18-2010 02:37 PM

okay i made a call.. when he met with the pr of mazda they told him not to use synthetic oil.. however in the manual it does state that " not recommended " , also it sais towing not recommended, but you can tow just that it will hurt your engine.. but it does say it will not be covered if you tow with it... so your only option is too take a look at the owner manual find where it sais u cannot use synthetic , if you cannot find it photocopy the page that only sais not recommended and write a letter to them making up some bs on why you used it instead of the the regular oil... know what i mean... even if you have to plead your case , if you have to sound desperate or whatever do it anyways.. thats the advice i got from my friend... good luck

hi speed

really thanks for your help.
i guess i will go back home after work and check the owner's manual and see what it said.

You would think by now that this club would have drafted some sort of formal petition to MNAO about how they shouldn't deny coverage for their mis-stated information about oil weights. If they meant ONLY 5w-20 can be used they should have stated exactly that. Not just, "we didn't test it so...good luck. Oh and we might tell you to fuck off..."

Detrich 05-18-2010 03:22 PM

^ +1 on what ET said...

I am sure Mazda Canada WOULD LOVE to see ANOTHER "Mazda screw customer" news in toronto star / globe and mail / cp24 - the auto section is a good start.

AFAIK, Synthetic oil being used in that particular engine became an issue in hot climates...and I don't think toronto is HOT at all.

Why don't you ask them point you to the section stated in the user manual that use of synthetic oil will VOID the warranty, when the rest of the world uses synthetic just fine. JDM market, EURO market all uses synthetic. Hell, the RX-8 owner's manual says to use 5w20 oil that meets API and ILSAC GF-3 specs. It doesn't specify oil type.

i found the link for 2004 rx8 owner's manual which is the year of my car.http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...004_owners.pdf

I couldn't find anything about synthetic oil prohibted.
on page 234 of that page there is only section on recommended oil.

Did anyone see black and white anywhere indicated used of synthetic oil will void warranty?

9krpmrx8 05-18-2010 04:22 PM

No manual says that I can assure you.

Fixed,

IIRC those overseas in Europe and possibly elsewhere showed scanned images where it explicitly states not to use synthetic.

afai 05-18-2010 04:32 PM

well, tonight when I get home I will check the hard copied owner manual that came with my car. As long there is nothing says on the copied I have about synthetic oil. I will fight them till the end.

FYI.. This was the customer relationship department of Mazda telling me this.

Lord ET 05-18-2010 04:35 PM

and the only thing that page 234 tries to say about using the 5w-20 is that it's better for cold start-ups and fuel economy.

9krpmrx8 05-18-2010 04:38 PM

Just print this out and show them. The Renesis is the same worldwide. Not sure how any owners manual could say do not use synthetic when this is supposedly designed for it.

I believe you can walk up to the parts counter in japan and buy it.

If my memory serve me well, I don't remember seeing any Synthetic Oil is prohibited..... the manual didn't specify any oil type (2007 RX-8 Owner's Manual)

dannobre 05-18-2010 04:51 PM

This is like saying that you will die if you drink Pepsi brand bottled water...but not from Coke brand..

Someone needs to give them a schooling on this.....

Lawyer up

Lord ET 05-18-2010 04:55 PM

^+1 on the lawyer and make sure he has that synthe-renesis info. to use against them. While you're at it, set some precedents so Mazda stops screwing people about oil weights

Chris_Bangle 05-18-2010 05:50 PM

As I said in post #7:

Contact the APA: Automobile Protection Association - http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?lang=english

I had a car issues that I wanted to sue over, while we ended working it out with the dealer the APA were very helpful.

afai 05-18-2010 05:57 PM

why would mazda said not to use synthetico oil? and futhermore tried to void my warranty.

I just dont understand. It is ridiculous... and I have to go through all these trouble to get help from them....

sigh...
