To address Kall's concern of boredom, the 929 model her Dad currently has is hardly the last word in excitement. Although I can see why she wants to skew the decision towards something more fun, I can see plenty of accountants who won't buy a Bimmer or Merc being happy with a Legend.
Agree Legend's on the improve, but still not the class leader it could have been. I used to be crazy about Honda's but these days I reckon they are a very frustrating company. Their moments of excellence ( NSX, Formula 1 engines, original CRX, a few of the hi po Integras, even the Accord Euro) interspersed with so much bland drivel. They should have been the first Japanese co to seriously threaten the premium Euro brands, but got thoroughly trashed in that race by .. of all things.. Toyota for heaven's sake!

Yeah, that came to mind but I thought it might be too sporty performance-wise to appeal to your Dad.

Does he like any of the Lexus models?

Lot cheaper than the other way 'round too Gibbo.

Tell me when you get yours and we'll grab Nick and have a mini-cruise somewhere.

This is my worst case:

Back in '84, with no. 2 son just born, I bought a new Bluebird Wagon as the family car.
4 years on, no. 3 son comes along and things are a getting a little squeezy in the bluey but I reckon it's still all cool.
Boys are growing man-sized rapidly and it's a sardine can in the back, but I keep maintaining and detailing bluey without a thought of trading her in.
Then the engine dies!!! Family thinks yippeee this is it - new car time - but not for me. I take holidays from work, pull the engine, rebuild and re-detail everything and away we go again!
Time passes, eldest gets his licence and I say there we go - only 2 in the back now - heaps of room.....
With only 2 to cart around, she uses her own car and bluey is all mine!!!!!
Finally in '03, after 19 years of driving the ol girl, I succumb to insane pressure from everyone around me (they like to think so - tis more the fact that I'm spending way too much time tinkering and tickling the ol girl to keep her going) and trade her in!!
As I drive away in my brand new car, I'm just a tad sad believe it or not......

It doesn't end there!

Just last month I'm heading to the Mazda dealer to grab a couple of calendars for the sheds and there, just around the corner parked outside a house is bluey.
I can't believe it! She's still on the road and looking reasonably respectable at that. I wrestle with the impulse to stop and go and knock on the door and ask for a sit in her - for old times sake - but decide to keep going and not look back!

I think I need to see a doctor...........................................

Cheers,
Rod.
Heh heh heh, great story Rod. Having met your 'er indoors, I'm betting she was a little vocal at times about a replacement.

Can't imagine anything made these days lasting the best part of 20 years. Everything seems clapped out after 8-9 years.

I agree with all that. Mind you, the S2K is not without its attractions.

Or ... he could always get a Honda Accord Euro :P

What's wrong with Saab? I'm kinda stuck on them, ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a Saab but they took their coupe off the market so I couldn't get one unless it was second hand ...

... if they bring out that Aero X though, I'm sold!

Yeah, I think Eric meant that too.

The look of the new 9-5 is actually growing on me. They're very reasonably priced as well. Just over $80k for a top of the range Aero! He could probably even get an Jaguar S-Type or something.

Current BMS are Fugly

Hi Guys I'm sorry to say but Ive owned 5 BM's in the past 10 years ,
A 318 , 320 ,325 ,528 , 330i and I really like Bm's great drivers cars but gee their currently butt ugly.
I brought a RX8 instead it had some style about it minus the badge.(and the cash)

My friends were horified about buying a mazda but now that they see it they say it looks very nice. Funny how that it is.

So sorry I drove a 335i its pretty cool but feels heavy also.
M3 is a master car perhaps my next if they dont make it pug ugly also.
Sorry but I'm saying what we are all thinking.

Cheers Gazza

Aaargh!!! Not the squinting hippo! Anything but that!

Those things are an abomination. Only cashed up ******* buy those things.

Sorry, but I have strong feelings about them.

If he wants a refined, luxurious 4WD, buy an X5 or a Range Rover. Mind you, that'll cost him.

Now that we've owned our 6 for a while, I can definitely recommend it but he might consider it a step backwards after the 929's creature comforts. Plus, I don't know how the auto goes.

Audi 6 STILL seems the perfect fit to me. Refined, understated, classy, reliable, some luxury and gadgets and yet still a nice drive. He'd love one I reckon.
