I'm not always so careful.

Thanks Nick.

Oh and by the way that twisty, bumpy road was McCarrs, and the RX8 was a rare yellow beast.
Challenging little strip of road I reckon, but these days I try to choose the time of day pretty carefully to avoid frighteneing other users. Lots if blind corners and a hellish, hard to see dip or two that's enough to bottom the suspension of anything short of a Hummer!

Agreed. It tests you and the car out alright and it's definitely better to have it to yourself if you can manage it.

That's the road I test all my mods out on. There's one particular stretch I have wired, so it's a good platform to work out whether something has improved the car or not. In particular, I figured if my MS suspension could manage that road at pace, it can survive most places.

I'll look out for a fast blue Bimmer from now on...

I use the same piece of road that V8 supercar test their mods on.
It is way safer than what Mrs Revolver thinks .

Drive safety and be responsible..... (In judging of those behaviour in Noble Park last Friday night.... )

They said they are going to make Sandown available for public open practice days.... oh my.

Taka, you don't need to speed or be at 10/10ths to work out if a mod has been beneficial, especially on this particular road.

Don't make assumptions.

Wow - what a beautiful car! Congratulations Nick. I traded my E36 328i coupe for a Winning Blue RX8 back in 2003 and still have a soft spot for the BMW. Needless to say, love the BMW colour!

Thanks Pappy. I did almost the same - went from a E46 325i sport to the RX8. In so many ways the RX8 proved to be a superior drive to the little Bimmer, but somehow I never quite got over the E46, my first "serious" car .
If Mazda had an "RX10" at upgrade time that's quite possibly what I'd be driving now. But they didn't, and I get bored easily and have never bought exactly the same model car twice in my life. So it was back to BMW.
I still detest the baggage and BS that comes with driving BMW's in this country though. Too many BMW drivers with "attitude" and too many non BMW drivers with "attitude" about BMW drivers. Hardly anyone will believe it, but for me it's the depth of engineering that fascinates most. That's why I was attracted to the RX8 in the first place, and also why I got intrigued with the turbo BMW. I never get tired reading about the efforts car designers put in to produce something that genuinely sets new standards in its segment.

Since he appears to like the cruisy, limo style of car, how about one of the following:

Chrysler 300C

Honda Legend

Audi A6

Bit of a price spread there but they all have appeal for different reasons.

Ah but methinks Missy wants to drive too. 300C SRT perhaps??

And here's a mystery for you: how is it that with all the resources and technology available to them, Honda never seem to succeed in achieving anything remarkable with the Legend? The Accord Euro seems to me to be twice the car, for half the price.

I agree that with Honda's resources it should be better but a quick Google indicates that the general consensus amongst motoring scribblers is that the new Legend is significantly better than what has gone before it.

To address Kall's concern of boredom, the 929 model her Dad currently has is hardly the last word in excitement. Although I can see why she wants to skew the decision towards something more fun, I can see plenty of accountants who won't buy a Bimmer or Merc being happy with a Legend.

Nick,
The car looks awesome, I have been informed mine is now officially on it's way, the euro number plates are ordered (N BM-335) and I am counting down the days (months actually).

I seems as though we bought the cars for exactly the same reason, if there was a newer RX-8 with better performance then I would be interested but there is nothing new. I had to get a car that fits two little kids but I wanted something sporty. The 335 was it.

The M3 was my choice but with a new model coming out why would you buy the old one.

I am not sure I will post photos, our cars are the same colour outside, inside the trim is the same but I have black leather not the beige (Two little kids with sticky fingers and dirty feet would soon make the beige a nice mottled brown colour.)

The car looks awesome, congrats. The 8 was and is an awesome car but as I have my wife forever I have to have something new in my life....hence a new car every 3 years.

I can relate to your dad Kall. I get horrendously attached to cars and can't part with them.

This is my worst case:

Back in '84, with no. 2 son just born, I bought a new Bluebird Wagon as the family car.
4 years on, no. 3 son comes along and things are a getting a little squeezy in the bluey but I reckon it's still all cool.
Boys are growing man-sized rapidly and it's a sardine can in the back, but I keep maintaining and detailing bluey without a thought of trading her in.
Then the engine dies!!! Family thinks yippeee this is it - new car time - but not for me. I take holidays from work, pull the engine, rebuild and re-detail everything and away we go again!
Time passes, eldest gets his licence and I say there we go - only 2 in the back now - heaps of room.....
With only 2 to cart around, she uses her own car and bluey is all mine!!!!!
Finally in '03, after 19 years of driving the ol girl, I succumb to insane pressure from everyone around me (they like to think so - tis more the fact that I'm spending way too much time tinkering and tickling the ol girl to keep her going) and trade her in!!
As I drive away in my brand new car, I'm just a tad sad believe it or not......

It doesn't end there!

Just last month I'm heading to the Mazda dealer to grab a couple of calendars for the sheds and there, just around the corner parked outside a house is bluey.
I can't believe it! She's still on the road and looking reasonably respectable at that. I wrestle with the impulse to stop and go and knock on the door and ask for a sit in her - for old times sake - but decide to keep going and not look back!

I think I need to see a doctor...........................................

Cheers,
Rod.

yeh i was saying to Nick i notice some rx8 characteristics in the beemer. the headlights and part of the shape remind me of the 8. also the interior is similar.

When I bought my car Nick and I hadn't even spoken about our choices, then after a little chat we found uor cars were almost identical. It must be the good taste that started with the RX-8.

Anyhow I can not wait.

Thanks Gibbo. Cool plates! I kinda wish I'd forked out the extra for Euro style plates too, but at the time I figured I dump enough cash into the Federal and State governments coffers every year, without paying friggin' plate renewal fees! I had black interior ordered too at first. It looks geat with the aluminium trim which, unlike on the E46, is the real stuff this time around. But I saw some pics of Jade Grey on the net, and really liked the two tone look with black door cappings, carpets etc, so changed the order at the last minute. I can tell you, those seats are fantastic. It literally took me a week of experimenting to get all the adjustments rspot on ( backrest width, moveable lumbar support, cushion length blah blah), but now that I have, they are just about perfect...

BTW you know once you have a BMW shipping reference number you can track the vessel on the net? They usually ship via US Gulf Coast, Panama Canal, Auckland then Brisbane. Helps while away the hours.....
