actually, if it's big, safe, slow, manual and ...er...cheap you're after...why not one of those French wagons. I'll only mention Citroen, 'cos otherwise Gomez gets upset.
Not my choice, but as you said, you're picky...and you've lived with a Saab this long (which I found strangely contrary -- how can you now be fussy?)...it'll hand down to the son etc...who'll want to carry surfboards, *******' mattress or whatever

i had a chitchat wit my dad b4 (we both went to a seminar this arvo, so had a father/daughter bonding session) and i wanted to talk about which cars he'd like.....
seems hes interested in audi and jaguar most. bmw and merc he said dont tickle his fancy (no offence guys!) Then he asked me again about maz6 and 1 was drivin past and i pointed it to him and hes like "no way thats 2 small" lol yay. then he said subaru sounds ok, but if he thinks the maz6 is small he'll think the liberty is also. jag is in the running but then he whinged about the servicing etc "do i have to waste half my day droppin car off and picking it up" if the jag dealership is so far.
thats my update! he asked me to print off details on all the cars we spoke about. i told him to bite the bullet and get the maserati and he said "im not wastin so much money on a car" lol dammit!! i must have my mothers spending genes...

Don't buy a Ford/Jaguar. Neither the X or the S really hits the mark IMHO and I'd suggest the depth of engineering in the Audi is better than the tarted up Fords wearing Jag clothing.
Audi A6. Stop arguing and tell him to just go buy one. lol

However, I doubt the A4 is much (if any) bigger than the Mazda 6 and he didn't think that was big enough for him.

i have been in that 929 and the A4 is about the same size on the inside, and the A4 has a higher build quality.

the 929's *** is a bit longer which gives the misrepresentation that its bigger i think
