I'm looking into buying a tv as well. I'm probably going w/ a projection tv.
New projection tv's aren't like the old 5ft 500lbs tv's. They weigh as little as 50-70lbs, and only about 12-16inches deep.
The reason I'm doing a projection tv is because it's for my room, and I don't have any place/plans to wall mount it.
I'm probably going w/ a 46-50inch.

Keith makes a good point about the HD inputs. Just remember, hd doesn't mean it has to be HDMI. Many new tv's have a couple component inputs, and 1 or 2 HDMI inputs. Both produce up to 1080P.

FYI - I've been searching high and low for a tv. My instinct is to bite the bullet and pick. Problem is, I know there will probably be great sales this weekend for Father's day, and 4th of July coming up, plus they always have Summer sales, and there's always the open box purchase options.

I'm going to swing by Fry's this weekend. They always have open-box items. Probably stop by a Circuit City of Best Buy for the same thing.

I'll keep an eye out for a tv for you also.
Let me know what stuff is most important to you.
Wall Mountable? Plasma? LCD? DLP? 1080i or 1080p? Automatic or Manual? Turbo or Supercharger?

 

I am acctually 2 seconds away from buying this one. I am convinced the 37" is smarter then the 32" fo rthe extra $100.

it has one of the best contrast ratios. and people seem to like the brand.

from what I can tell in the 8 hours or so of searching, its the best deal. (this or the 32" for $499)

just to add to cesar's comments... LCD projection HDTVs are a great choice too if (1) your budget's in the $1,000+ range and (2) if you're looking for a 42"+ or bigger screen. for that price/ size range, LCD projections offer the best "bang-for-the-buck"...

that said, i bought a 42" sony LCD projection HDTV 2 years ago. and, it's a great tv and has a ton of high-res inputs (component, hdmi etc)- ie in case you get more toys that need hooking up at high-resolution (xb360, hd-dvd, br-dvd, ps3, karaoke machine etc.) 2 years ago my tv cost around $1,700, and noways it's around $1100.

if $ was no object, back then i would've preferred to go w/ a 42" LCD instead of the LCD projection- only because personally i feel that the LCD's display dark colors more accurately and overall just look brighter than the LCD projections. of course, the down-side is LCD's are more vulnerable to screen burn in/ burn out. so, every choice has it's trade offs.

for your budget, though i think the 37" LCD is still the best deal.

 

p.s. BEFORE U BUY casey...

there "IS" a huge difference between HD-READY vs. HD-TV. U DEFINITELY WANT TO GET HD-TV and not the hd-ready... the difference is the hd-ready doesn't have a built-in hd-tv tuner, which u definitely want- regardless whether u have cable/ satellite or not. reason being, majority of the free networks are already broadcasting in HD, and even if u just hook up bunny ear anntennaes to the HD-TV, u will get MANY more channels than u would w/ only the hd-ready.

hope u read this before u "click" buy...

ie look for the syntax olevia HD-TV 37".

 

cable come in through the tivo, then goes to the TV. wouldnt the Tivo have to be HD also?

I talked to him about the HD-TV vs. HD-Ready.
He's not too concerned w/ getting local hd channels.
At least, not if it means paying more for the TV, or he'll have to sacrafice size.

yes. if your tv is HD-READY only, then it's capable of displaying HD resolutions, but it cannot decode HD-TV signals natively and therefore requires an external device to decode it- such as a cable box or tivo device. an HD-TV, on the other hand, has a built-in HD-TV decoder/tuner and can decode HD content on the fly.

 

I have a Panasonic 62" LCD projection.

Most tv's are being sold HD ready given the cheap access to HD tuners through satelitte and cable companies. No need to pay extra for a tv when the HD charge is not that much from the satellite companies.

With HD televisions, you still have to put up an HD attenna, cause you can't catch the HD signal with normal antenna.

well, i've tried it w/ bunny ears and it does seem to work... u switch the tv to HDTV mode and it picks up whatever HD broadcasts are in the air. there are a ton of channels that the analog receiver can't see.

I bought a Polaroid 32" for $ 700 out the door at Christmas.

I already have a Mistsu 35" Regular TV.

Then we won a 15 LCD Tv at the Christmas party.

 

i bought a 56" back in jan. now i think it's too small. ready to move up to 70"
i guess size does matter...

 

i was so not pleased with my car yesterday. went to victorville and got caught in traffic on the 210 alot of stop and go. well when traffic cleared up i to make up some time. well my car would not pull in 6th gear, as a matter of fact when we were on a straight road i'd be doing 64 and punch it, nothing happened. i got better response from 5th but still not the car i know. and was not that hot where we were. not happy at all. so now it runs ok naturally, since i'm back home..

Certin After market one are better. You would have to see which last long by asking diffrent people that have a after market setup.
