Razz, my young Padawan... You speak as though you know the truth yet you could not be futher from it.
This was talked about close to 5 years ago on this forum:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/does-rx-8-have-rev-limiter-17319/
I am not concerned as to what the guys on the track are experiencing as they spend SO much time near the redline, they could simply be hitting the fuel cutoff, continuing to hit the gas and THINKING that they're still drawing fuel. They are wrong.
DIRECTLY from Racing Beat:

2. We changed the rev limiter from 9000 RPM to 9300 RPM to take advantage of the increased power available at that RPM once the mixture is changed. Testing has shown that 9300 is an acceptable RPM for the engine. Mazda chose 9000 in part because power was dropping so fast at 9000 there was no point to revving further.
fuel cut off feels very weird. it's like your car suddenly jolts a bit and loses power.
i've yet to do it on the 8, but have done it in my 3 accidentally a few times. no beep, no warning, just JOLT, and no more fuel.

my company can be kind of stupid sometimes. i think they want to make their lawyers earn there keep.
but my HR person says unless they admit it, prosecute..
.

.
razz1 how much work have you and the other track guys put into your cars, do see where i,m going.
your car is nowhere close to where it was when you first got it. the only thing i did was put an
intake on it, and that was 2 years ago. unless you saw what i saw,
the bases of your debate can not hold up..

Michael: has it done it more then once? I can hook up my data logger, mash the pedal and we'll see where the cutoff is happening. (AFR's will show us where the fuel cut off)

fricken awsome....now you just need to get your xboxlive account back up and running and send those babies to me so I can copy them.
Hey, if anyone is interested, Mazdspeed Monday on Forza. If the guys in that thread don't actually run tonight, I would be more than willing to host....starting at 7:00 pm tonight.
Looks like they are planning to run D, C, B, and A class....any Mazda, any tune.....
would be nice to have my Protoge paint by tonight...(hint, hint)
...oh, I forgot that I got a message from Xbox live saying it would be down for 8 hours today. I assume it will be fine by tonight, as it was not on this morning at 8:00.
