Would anyone be willing to let me borrow their MAF to test if mine is on the way out or not? I don't want to take it anywhere, just install and test out my airflow to see what I get with a different one.
I have been having some LTFT problems and my MAF only reads about 151 g/s max at WOT. I don't know what the problem is but I don't want to just start throwing parts at it. SO far people have suggested either my MAF, compression(checked 10k miles ago and was good), front O2 sensor, or some type of fuel pressure or injector problem.
I don't even know if the MAF is even a good suspect for the problem other than its low reading. I am getting between +5 and +12% LTFT and that was my original problem before finding out the rest of it.

Hey XEXOK, let me know if you find a local donor to test. I'm having similar issues with my 04 RX8, (will not hold idle). I'd like to try a stock intake tube and MAF sensor in place of my short ram setup. It's an easy 5 minute job to swap them, before plunking down the ca$h for a $pecial order part. I'll bring the tools and beverages. Anyone have a stock intake they would like to clear out of their garage? Please!
XEXOK i wouldnt mind letting u test with mine but im not sure if a s1 maf would work on ur s2... squishband im not getting rid of mine but we can meet on one of my days off and put mine in yours to see if it idles... if it works then u can snag one if it doesnt, saved u money... lol usually off mon-weds...
It should be the same, autozone lists the same part number for a 09 and an 04 rx8.
If possible I would like to also measure how many grams a second your maf on your car pulls in first. I could just ride with you as the passenger and check the screen and it would be helpful if you did the same for me in my car once we swap it. My obd2 scanner doesn't do logs very well so I have to look at it as I am driving which isn't exactly the safest thing.
I work 9-4 tomorrow and I am off Thursday, my schedule is different every week. If you're off tomorrow maybe we can meet up at some point, just let me know when a good date is if that doesn't work. We really could not live farther apart though, I am at 215 and flamingo.

damn across the city, might as well be california to arizona..lol i dont mind the drive though. tomorrow im gonna be doing some stuff during the day but i should be free by 4 ish. just sux the sun goes down by that time unless u dont mind messing with it in the dark. as far as measuring the grams just find a road that has no cops lol. i'll pm my contact info
Hey I just caught up to this convo, I bought the Revi intake and its still needing to go in. Meaning I won't need the stock intake. Squishband, if you need it lemme know. Putting in the Revi by myself is gonna be a hassle so if I can get some help putting it in, then the intake coming out is up for grabs.

check your fuel pump housing for leakage, it is a rather common failure and results in higher LTFT as the engine tries to compensate for the lower fuel pressure and low AFRs from normal injector duty cycles. it can also cause premature engine failures.
does the car smell of raw fuel intermittently? even if not it only takes 5 minutes to pop off the pump inspection plate and see if you have a bathtub of fuel sitting on top of the tank. this is a huge, rather untalked about problem with the 8's, and often misdiagnosed. i've seen a number of the pump modules cracked in the valley even though the 8's that come in are rather limited in number so the high percentage i see failed probably transposes to the rest of you guys.
the pump module cracks underneath the pump outlet lengthwise and you can only see it with the line removed and a mirror under the outlet nipple but the telltale is fuel dripping from the outlet with the pump running.
you can also clean the MAF with a special solvent you can find at most auto parts stores which won't harm the sensor element. oil and dirt will throw off the MAF calibration over time, especially if you ever used an oiled air filter element on the car.

I don't smell fuel really but the midpipe is a pretty big smell anyway so I can't be sure.
I have only used the stock filter and replaced that about 10-15k miles ago. I have cleaned the maf a few times now with no luck.
Last night I swapped MAFs with anthony and I started to get better readings of 26+ lbs/minute. Then on the way home after swapping my MAF back in I tested mine again and suddenly it started working and reading 25-26 lbs/minute at WOT. I know we did not mix up the MAFs as his had a dirty IAT sensor and I checked mine when I got home and it was clean. I am still planning on buying a new MAF I guess since this one seems to work at random times.
That fuel pump inspection plate you are talking is located under the rear seats correct?

Hey Kevinrogick, are you in Las Vegas or Cali? If your in Vegas, send me a PM and I'll give you a hand with the Revi install. I'm in Henderson.
Anthony, appreciate the offer, your not to far from me. (Warmsprings/Racetrack Rd.) I'll try to get in touch by phone. Thanks

Squishband, I'm in east Vegas off of Charleston and Nellis, so you're not that far off. Any help is much appreciated. Anthony Dejesus is down to meet up, and Ray said he'd help out too. Liking the support!
Dozer, I moved out in the summer so I'm up here now, family's still over on Euclid and Hazard. Those holes you drilled in the taillights worked excellently, but the bulb just kicked the bucket. Eh, better than replacing the whole taillight

the pump inspection cover is under the passenger seat bottom behind the driver. silver plate with 4 screws holding it to the chassis, pop it off and the pump module is staring you in the face. it will usually be sopping wet and the smell of raw fuel hit you as soon as you pop it off if it is a problem.
