Anyone else have the clicking noise from their Valvetrain? Reminds me a of a Sticky Tappet...

Anyone Else hear that?

 

This sounds like a "joke" that zeibelin would start...

Your Right though, good points... I bet it's actually the Rocker Arms... I've been meaning to check the Clearances.

 

A timing chain that's too loose will make that sound too.

Go straight to the muffler bearings...they always go out of spec's and start to rattle

 

That's why I replaced my timing chain with a rubber band. It's strechy and doesn't rattle around.

 

Hmm Good Point... I'll Pull the Timing Chain Cover off tonight and Make certain that the Tensioner is set correctly. Might also explain the slightly rough idle I've got... Timing might be off a bit.

 

Now how many miles have you gotten outta the rubber band? Seriously...

I mean hell, when this Wankel guy came up with the thing he was prolly thinking "Now if I just had a rubber band..." Leave it too Mazda to leave the thing out.

 

Yeah I allready checked and repacked the Muffler bearings. Took some doing but I got em' both done.

I also checked the Throttle assist Springs because I saw a TSB about those coming loose.

Good call though, my bearings were a little dry and not very well lubed. Well they are Lubed now...

OK I got under the hood and started digging. Once I removed the Screws and got the engine cover off I was momentarily confused... ANYWAY, I don't think it's the timing chain anyway.

I had the wife hop in and rev the engine a little. After a few tries I asked her to just hold the peddle to the floor.... After about a Minute of listening to it bouncing of the rev limiter I think I know what the problem is.

Pretty sure I have it Narrowed down to the "Piston Return Spring" I figure that the Spring has been tightly wound after a few thousand miles of running forward and that if I put it in "Reverse" I should be able to Loosen the Piston return spring.

I was pretty concerned until I went to KaleAuto I saw the piston return spring and thought BAM, that must be it!!!! Besides $14.99 is a bargain for this spring... Though I am not certain how Many I'll need. I bet the helpful folks at Kaleauto know though. We'll see how this works.

 

You Could Take An Exhaust Example, With A Platic Bag, To Your Local Muffler Shop To Have It Check For Free. I Do This Before My Oil Change, To Make Should The Oil Is Bad

 

Excellent point!!!! I dunno why I didn't think of this. Good Stuff, But do I collect from the left or the right tip? Either way there is a shop right across the street from work.

 

Easy. Put a cork in the left tip and then collect from the right tip. Don't reverse them though or you could short out your EGR system.

Pretty Certain I saw one on ebay the other night, it was being offered up along with a fresh set of Power Bands. Which as you know the V-tec is pretty hard on.

I know what will fix it. You can replace your 5 pistons with paper ones. It works everytime.
