It's not reasonable to expect the same coverage for the same price as people driving to work every day as they noted, the claims for track coverage usually involve fully totaled vehicles

That's why RX-8s make great track cars. If I crash mine at the track, it could be replaced for about 10K. Much better than crashing a 40K (or more) car.

Of course, it doesn't really matter because my wife would kill me first either way.

good point. I wonder if life insurance policies have an exclusive if you die during HPDE.

If you are already in a policy before you start driving, then you are OK. If you are signing up for insurance and you are driving, you will have a rider on the policy and have to pay as surcharge. If you then quit, you can have that surcharge waved. The surcharge is pretty heavy. I had one while I was racing. I don't know if it applies to HPDE's.
