Blown oil seal?

So I just bought an 06 MT and I think I have a blown oil seal... I just brought it home today, a 180 mile drive. Here's what up:
(Smokes a lot at high rpms, not always though, I cleared it out by redlining a few times in park and then ran it through the first 3 gears shifting at 8k and it didn't do it, cruised about a mile at 3k rpms then Throttled it onto the interstate again and first gear lost power at 7k then threw out huge clouds of smoke, followed by another large burst of smoke at each shift)
I premixed but this was ALOT of smoke, smelled like a two stroke with bad rings (my ac was on so it got sucked in) I let it sit about half an hour while I talked with my babysitter after the trip and when I started it it was smoking pretty heavily again, only took about 45 seconds to clear up once I took off though. I read through the forums a lot before buying my first rotary engine (this car) so obviously a compression test is on the list of to dos (couldn't do one beforehand but I got the car at half price because of the hot start issues which I believe are due to bad oil seals, even if its apex seals I want to do a master rebuild next summer anyways) in the meantime I also want to do plugs/wires/coils/oil change (idk what the previous owner used for oil and that worries me so I want to get it out) high flow cat, clean MAFS and seafoam. But it'll be a couple weeks before I can do all that, and the cat will likely be in the spring when I can afford to buy it and a reinforced clutch bracket at the same time (my clutch bracket has some stress marks that worry me and I'd rather not have it go unexpectedly, I drove my jeep for a week without a clutch and it was not fun, nor good for the starter lol) but yeah, that's the deal, what do you guys think is wrong? Is the oil seal a good guess? Or could this just be a strange misfire that might straighten up with coils/plugs?

I've just joined this forum.
I know it 7+ years but that's disappointing no one replied to you!
What was the issue in the end?

Hey, new member as well but I spent a lot of time reading and watching videos hehe
So there is a lot to consider, specially because you don't know the maintenance history. First keep an eye on your oil level, don't let it starve, if the oil light appears on your cluster it may be too late.
burning too much oil is a common problem related to oil seals or OMP, I would start with a compression test and move foward from this.
also, about the Cat, if yours is not cluged I wouldn't recommend changing it. Not all cats deal well with rotary exhaust temperature, it won't make that much difference (except for RE Amemiya) and the exhaust system works as a whole, changing only this for a street car is money wasted imo.
by the way, check your spark plugs to see if the excessive oil didn't ruined them.

Smoke puffs and power loss are often the cat imploding. Also the first post is 7 years old.

Yep I know it was 7 years old, most posts are very old I've noticed.
I'm not having any issues with my 8, I'm just enjoying reading posts and various problems/issues and solutions ppl are having.
I've just bought an excellent condition 40th anniversary, not a single problem.
It's been well looked after and low Kms.
Everything is stock so I've been trawling through, looking up how the best look after her.
