Sticky tach needle?

Hi
I've just got a 2006 RX8 couple days ago and noticed the RPM needle doesn't move smoothly. It's like it sticks slightly and jumps notch by notch if not accelerating hard.

This is my first car with a rotary so not sure if this is just normal or if you guys know of an easy way to fix.

I've had a look around the forums but it doesn't seem to be the grounding as it doesn't flicker or jump massively but more like a sticky needle.
The engine itself runs smoothly so no issues there

Any advice is appreciated
Thanks.

No, it shouldnt be "sticking". Likely something you'll need to remove the gauge cluster to inspect. You could try shooting in WD-40 in the RPM gauge mechanism once you get it out but 50/50 that fixes it. Other than that, you would need to replace the gauge cluster itself.

Is the gauge sticking or is your engine not revving smoothly? I know you say it feels smooth, but it's also your first rotary. What does the OBD rpm signal say?

Might give this a go later then, hope it works.
Thanks.

Currently waiting on the obd reader to arrive but I'll definitely check that once it does. 👍
