Suddenly have no power....

I have an 06 rx8 and suddenly I'm having power issues. When I got the car the previous owner had told me that it's going to need a new apex seal which I'm fully aware can lead to compression issues but has yet to be a problem. Only issue was that it would leak a tiny amount of oil and have to top it up from time to time. I've has the car for 3 months now and just yesterday it's all of a sudden acting up. I'd topped up my oil...now starting in first or any gear for that matter it's barely moving while I have to Rev it pretty high. Every gear is pushing more rpms than normal and it's almost non responsive. It's due for an oil change but should I get a compression test done as well? Also wondering what it will roughly cost to change the apex seal?

That sounds like the clutch is slipping, which means you need to have a new clutch installed. There is no such thing as replacing an apex seal. If one is bad, it means you need to have the engine rebuilt or buy a re-manufactured engine.

It's shifting gears no problem it just has no power... can't step on it. Very slowly gains speed while having to Rev it very high

Your clutch is finished. If the engine is revving high but the car is not gaining speed, the engine is not connected to the wheels.

So. Clutch time!

It sounds like you are new to this, so read around the new member threads. Short story: it's not leaking oil, it's designed to burn a certain amount. Stay on top of the oil level.

Apex seals are changed by changing the engine. So don't worry about that for now. The compression test is best done before purchase, but it is a good idea to have it done anyway so you know what you are working with. Do it at Mazda or a rotary shop, a regular mechanic doesn't have the necessary equipment.

If the previous owner did not specify when the ignition coils, spark plugs and wires were last changed, change them. Bad ignitions kill engines.

OK should I just get the whole clutch kit and replace the fly wheel too while I'm at it?

No reason to replace the flywheel unless it is damaged.

No way to tell until you pull it out right?
