Alright I know seafoam is always a hot topic on any forum and there are a ton of posts about it on here. But my question is in regards to putting it in through the brake booster. I have tried to type in Seafoam and Brake Booster and could not get a specific thread with the right results. So hopefully by posting this, this thread will be there for others trying to do the same search in the future.

When I bought the car a few months back the prior owner said he ran Seafoam and BG through it, but I have no way of knowing if he did or was just pulling my chain so I would like to put in some seafoam myself.

I have done Seafoam on a bunch of my previous cars and just did my wife's CX-7 (which has the Mazdaspeed DISI turbo motor) and did it through the brake booster line as recommended on the forums and it worked well and caused a ton of smoke for a while, she had 57K on her motor. I have done it straight into the throttle body on other cars.

My question is if that would be a bad thing on the RX8 and if so when WHY would it not be a good thing? I know the can says to go through the brake booster and that it's been said here in posts that "the instructions are for an engine with pistons" and obviously this is a rotary.

Let me know your thoughts as I was planning to throw it through the brake booster line as it appears to suck directly into the intake manifold almost to the same area as the 2 side vac ports so I don't see why it would be any different putting it up a little higher in the manifold. Otherwise why not just throw it through the throttle body?

Also is it 100% necessary to unplug all of those cables to put in the seafoam? I didnt have to do anything with he CX7 aside from yanking the brake booster cable and shoving it in there.

Search was done, and I did not find the answer to the question about the Brake Booster line. If I had found it I would not have bothered posting this thread at all. I even stated that by posting this hopefully that helps someone else if they too try to search "Seafoam" and "Brake Booster" so they too can get the answer.

I did not find any direct answer to whether or not the Brake Booster line or throttle body was specifically bad. I have used them before on other cars but not on a rotary engine.

 

If the question is about where to suck it in and let it sit, then don't bother, it literally does nothing, and was proven.

If the question is just about where to ingest it while the engine is running, then generally there isn't much reason to use something other than the LIM service ports. However, not much reason to use seafoam, because while it does work, so does distilled water, and it works just as effectively when ingested that way, but is usually 90 cents for a gallon rather than $8 for 16 oz or whatever.

 

Thanks man. I just didn't have any spare vac lines I could use for the service ports and the brake booster was right there and slid off easily. I just did not know if it would be bad and if so exactly why you couldn't use that or the throttle body. It must me something rotary specific then since the throttle body and vac ports I have used before on other cars with success and no further issues afterwards.

 

There isn't a reason you "can't" use them. You can. It's just always better to use something much closer to the engine rather, and we have something that piston engined cars usually don't: A direct ingestion port for each rotor inches from the port opening. Most piston engine cars the close service ports would provide uneven distribution, so you have to use something further away to hope to get even distribution.

We have something better, so it's better to use that.

Makes total sense, I understood they were closer, I just didn't know if it were a bad thing to use the brake booster on the top.

 

I recently bought an S2 RX-8 R3 with 135k miles on it. I want to decarb the engine, but more importantly I am occasionally getting the P2070 stuck SSV code. Would putting seafoam in the brake booster vac line help clean the SSV?

Also, I have not seen any threads discussing how to do the decarb procedure on an S2 engine, so might this be an alternative?

 

I have 1 on my 04 rx8 and you can tell a big difference I love it and will be putting them on my other cars. I do have to replace some parts on my motor nmbut that's due to my own fault not amytho g to do with the Sprint booster it's a must buy
