Ah well I guess I'll have to be the guinea pig with piasini. It seems like other ECU's have a 100 flash limit to prevent wearing out the ROM chip... hoping this won't be a problem down the line.

Epifan says that this is because we flashed the ECU more than 100 times with a non-fixed kernel version. He says its because we're using an older version of ME and the version as of Feb 2013 has fixed kernel version flashing but we only started using ME in July... anyway he says we have to use a Piasini Master suite tool to flash a file that he'll provide to fix it. So yea... have to order one and wait till it arrives... thoroughly pissed off at the moment.
Hmm, did you happen to note the before/after versions of ME to avoid the 100 flash limitation?
I got my version in June, after the Feb date, but worryingly before the July date you mention... If I hit "about", it says product version 2.0, file version 2.0.2.755.

EDIT: So I did re-download the installer from the original link I had and it is version 2.0.2.765. I also grabbed a new definitions file, again at the same link as I had. I guess this means the "Check for updates" function which I tried does not work. Made a back up of everything before installing the new version and not tried either of these yet...

Sure is a lot of registration steps with ME lol. Bought it, had to wait a day for my key, entered key, and sent him an email with my VIN and device key. I assume i need to wait for all of that information to come back as well before I can do anything worth bothering with?

Is there any company's that do the tuning for you?

I'd like to cleanup ECU but don't have experience to do it myself.

Not yet. I would prefer to learn myself, but may end up giving one of the gurus my monnies for help.

Just got my bin file back from epifan. I am thinking that my preliminary goals are the following:

1. Disable emissions CEL's
2. Tune out the richness at start since I dont have a cat
3. Tune max load afr's down to ~13 as opposed to the 11.9 that I get from the oem tune lol.

Darn; yeah those all sound great too!

I take it the ME software is on laptop with OBDII cable and that's how we flash the thing?

Hmm--wonder if my race shop would be interested. They use Cobb and do the S1 RX8.

Correct. You need an OpenPort2.0 to interface the vehicle with ME.

Be careful with tuning out the startup fuel adder. I don't think it's only for cat lightoff; at least in my port-injected V8, extra fuel helps on startup because the gas is not atomized as efficiently due to the low temperature of the engine.

Also, someone reputable around here, though I can't remember who now, mentioned in another thread that the stock wideband can be rather inaccurate toward the richer end of the scale, so I would take care with that as well.

Of course, I'm about as much a noob at this as anybody - just sharing what (I think) I've learned so far.

Yep, I have the same version (2.0.2.755). Still waiting for the piasini (takes a while coming from China...) so nothing new to report really.

What version of ME is everyone else running?

I did over 300 flashes on my old ECU before ME tripped the 100 flash counter . Protuner previous to ME .
No problems with the rom chip .......

EEPROM and Flash Memory can go through MANY (hundreds of thousands) of P/E cycles before they get 'worn'

OOC, do S1 owners have two DTC# tables as well? I thought I read somewhere that you did but I couldn't find it in this thread.

It was mentioned in this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-te...-242731/page3/

Both car and shop read richer in the last run (when temps must have been higher).

Per the shop readings I am running too lean, so not sure what to make of that.
