Series II ECU Tuning
epifanSoftware • View topic - mazdaEdit Personal for MX-5, RX-8 and MPS 2nd-gen owners! - looks like the personal version is available for the s2.
The personal version is working good so far with my S1. I went through the registration process with Epifan this morning. He made a new build of mep halfway through the process so be sure to tell him early on that you've got an RX8 -- I think he initially assumed I had an MS3.
Shows full support for the S2. I posted a screenshot of its editor in action in Brett's mazdaedit thread.

Cool .... yeah I've been going back and forth with him thru email doing the registration. Just sent him hardware fingerprint, so waiting for the user code for the software. I did mention to him in my last email that it was for an rx8 s2 . I'm just really excited to finally be able to tune this damn thing

I tried to get the guy that sells it help me to do a few things.... but he s a complete jerk, so be forwarned. This is not an easy install process and there s issues w the software when installing it. He ll take control of your computer and do it for you, but everything is your fault. I know nothing about tuning....so try and ask him questions he feels you should know and he gets shitty w you. I basically told him he s a ***** and left it at that....

Are you guys talking about epifan? Granted, I'm a developer by trade but the process was fairly straight forward and problem free installing and "mating" it to my Win7 Parallels VM, the Open Port 2.0, and my VIN.
And that was with him sending me the wrong version first that required I modify it's command line to get it uninstalled and unlicensed before going through the process a second time a couple hours later once he had the RX8 software build done.
I've only had a handful of issues. The Mazda CANalyzer doesn't always report CELs correctly but it does clear them. I also had a bootloader issue for the Open Port briefly but corrected it by grabbing my prior map, canceling out, then reselecting the one I was trying to flash.
NTITAI I haven't actually communicated with him beyond going thru the registration process ... sounds like that's the way to go.

He was just hard to get a hold of for me. I ordered ME and then contacted him asking about RX8 support. He apologized to me and immediately refunded my money instead of having me wait for the supported version to be released.

If you know what you're doing you probably will have no issues ... tuning wise i mean .... but if you have simple question that someone would ask that doesn't really know that much about tuning at this point .... he pretty much tries to make you feel like a dumbass, lol , but getting it installed just has a few quirks for the personal one , not sure about the pro. He did get it installed though ... and i'm pretty good with computers .... but with tuning i'm not. That's why i have Brad do that . At any rate, he's just a pain to deal with in that respect ... but if you have some good knowledge of tuning or have a good tuner avail then you should be fine . Hopefully it will yield some good results when i get everything all set. Brettus is actually helping me at this point , as well so may have some info sooner than i thought.
Preview of things to come

This is just the logging feature of the versatuner software, but so far so good. We can now see when APV's open/close, SSV's open/close, etc. Here is MAF voltage against RPM.

Ok well reflashed ECU with codes that were showing turned off and got rid of the cel, was easy to reflash. So everything has worked well to this point, just have to get the tune from RIP. My thought was I may just mail my laptop to him and have him input values we got last summer with hypertech .... then he can mail back to me and I can flash to my car and we can go from there. Hopefully , it'll save me a trip to OK, lol
So nice to have the Cel gone, though !

Just got instructions on how to do the whole remote tune thing as well as updated definitions that include pretty much everything that cobb does.
So S2 owners - you now have a complete tuning solution .

He doesn't have to try, you just haven't accepted it yet. Real life is not a kindergarten class. The pupil bows before the master, not the other way around.
The guy expects you to be a software whizzkid and makes you feel like a dumbass if you aren't - even if it was his software that caused the problem. Maybe we should all be software engineers before we even think about buying this ...

Like Brettus said , I have the personal .... If you're not planning on doing a tune on multiple cars / vins I don't think there's much reason to buy the pro now that the personal s out. I believe they're pretty similar except for that .
