At the very least though you'd need to rework the trigger wheel or maybe swapping that as well would just do the trick.
Sucks abt the Haltech.... I know we all had our fingers crossed.

I was hoping more people would chime in, but wouldnt it be a little realistic to think that a S1 ECU could "piggy back" and imitate most S2 controls. If the trigger wheel is a huge issue, doesnt make more sense use the S1 ECU and something like a COBB make need adjustments and tune.

Srry if anyone thinks it ridiculous, but I havent read anywhere anyone has tried a S1 "piggy-back" and I not knowledgable enough to say its a unrealistic idea.

just really sucks that a manufacturer that has such a rich racing history, and especially since this vehicle is no longer is in production, that they cannot divulge the details of their ECU configuration to help enthusiasts.

Well from what i understand they pretty much divulged everything, just couldn't get the damn thing to work perfect. Not with the stock computer involved. Haltech said there's a piece, like i said , that they could make that may trick the stock computer, but i didn't want to go that route. Was getting to complicated being that i'm in ohio.

Talked to Brad today for quite a while ... this thing isn't over yet, lol , we're waiting on something .... might be a bit but waiting to see if a development , so to speak, works out. If it does, we'll probably be at this again next spring pulling out the whole stock computer and getting a race pak for gauges. Just have to make sure there's a couple functions we can keep. If it works out we'll prob be at this again but will have to wait and see . Who know , maybe someone will come up with something before then.

Personally, I'd just swap the drivetrain for a series I and be done with it.
Its not like the series II improvements mean much.

I typed out a long reply only for it to be lost when I hit post reply.

Bryan is correct on all accounts for what was happening. I can tell you I had the car running better than stock for idle and cruise. The problem arose around WOT. Short of going into a lot of details the stock computer would shut us down.

As Bryan mentioned there was a possibility but it involved getting more invasive with the cars electrical system. At the time it was a concern for Bryan so we chose to stop for a bit. However do not worry as I am working on a solution and we should see something by the end of the year. We have to much time and resources dedicated to this for us to give up.

Bryan thanks for your support and I look forward to what we discussed this afternoon.

It's not that simple , i'm Sure Brad could confirm that ....

however, like Brad said ... we're working on a solution and thinking this will be back in the works shortly. Anyone can do it if you don't mind completely pulling the stock computer, but if I'm going to do that i want to make sure i can keep certain functions. Once it's figured out should be a relatively quick process I think .... we already have all the tuning worked out and kept that info . Just a matter of pluggin everything back in once we work through some issues. We'll get there

Its not quite that simple.

We are working harder than you may imagine to solve the tuning issues and are closer than they appear on here.

I cannot disclose what is happening at the moment but when the time is right you will know.

Any news, good or bad?

Been watching this thread for awhile for a glimmer of hope. Any news yet? This issue has slightly tainted my feelings for my R3. I still love it, but it's that one thing you have to have in order to make that long term commitment.

What a letdown (so far)

The biggest, baddest RX8, destined to be parked hard because no tuning

Damn you Mazda.

Since all the Star Mazda cars use a Motec M400, might that be a better option?

that'd cost a shitload of money too and a ton of stock stuff would no longer work.

It's not the unit that s the problem, its the factory computer if it's involved in the equation in any way .... Even if it's just controlling the dash , etc. Now if you want to take the factory computer out completely and just run the car off of the motec or haltech from what i understand that would work fine .... but that's just not the way i'm looking to go. I don't want to lose some of the functions that i would without the factory computer .... however, like i said we're waiting on something that Brads supposed to be working on that may change that. Stay tuned

Just got myself a genuine Rotunda VCM II, full factory tester, updater, code reader, data logger, module reprogrammer, does everything except make the coffee!!.....wired and wireless use.
+ Mazda IDS Software...
I plan to help local Mazda members/owners and perhaps save them some money.
And learn a little more myself in the process.

Just bought Mazdaedit - they advertise compatibility with ALL rx8 models 2003-2011 . Once I have it up and running on my (turbo) car I will try it on a series 2 - if I can get hold of one .

My car is tuned now . They tell me that they have had it work on series 2 cars (not for actual tuning yet) so it is looking good . Need to find a series 2 car local and see what happens when i try downloading the ecu map.
