18x8+35 is a very safe size and offset. It's effectively a stock wheel with a small spacer. In comparison I'm running a 19x9.5 +38 and that's not even pushing the limit yet.
Nice R3. I appreciate the input sir.

Unhappy rubbing liner splash shield

I've put new wheels under the car with these specifications ( 18inch 9.5 Offset 18 ) but the liner splash shield part has a rubbing ( only plastic NOT METAL ) is there a problem if i remove that plastic? Or change the coilovers level?

Do not remove the plastic, you need it to support the undertray, which you need for proper cooling.

Love the wheels!

The plastic could leave a groove in the tire as it wears. I have had this happen on a few of my cars. If you are concerned determine where it is rubbing and only cut away that part.

Hi,

I have a stock 2010 RX-8, not lowered or anything. I'm looking at wheels with the following specifications below.

18X8.5 30P
18X9.5 22P
18X9.5 15P
18X9.5 35P

Could you advice me which one in the list would be best and what tyres to put into them? I am thinking it might be the 8.5 30p or the 9.5 35p as per my search in the forums but wanted to get input from you guys.

I would would get the 18x9.5 +35 and put
245 40 18 tires. They will fit and be nice and wide and fill out the wheel wells without any issues..

Hi Dann,

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to confirm that those specs would fit nice (no rubbing) on a stock Series 2 2010 RX-8 without any mods? Sorry, just trying to make sure because another member said that it might not fit in the rear.

They should fit with those tires. With wider tires you may have issues. They are on the edge though. You would be better with 45 offset.....

As long as it won't rub I'll be ok with that. I think I will go with them. Thanks Dann!

Edited for formatting.

I did some quick math, and I'm hoping this will definitively answer your question with my experience.

OEM (18x8 +50): Outside Rim Lip from Hub 103.8mm / 4.1"
18x9 +35: Outside Rim Lip from Hub 79.6mm / 3.1" (this is my current wheel. I could run a 10mm spacer in the rear)
18x9.5 +35: Outside Rim Lip from Hub 85.7mm / 3.4" (proposed)
18x9.75 +20: Outside Rim Lip from Hub 51.6mm / 2.0" (my old wheels. There was rubbing, so I had to roll my rear fenders)

Based on my experience, the 18x9.5 +35 should be fine without rolling fenders, especially with a 245/40/18.
Worst case scenario, you can add a little negative camber. Factory alignment should let you get close to -2*.
This wouldn't cause much increased inside wear, and would actually be good for more aggressive driving.

Sweet! Thanks for the input man. Will go with 9.5 +35. Thanks a lot!

245/45 17 Tires on 17X9 +40 Wheels

Now that I've done some research on this thread, I went with this setup:

Wheels:
F/R: 17X9 +40

Tires:
F/R: 245/45 17

Suspension:
Tein Flex Z

Height:
F: -1"
R: -0.5"

Camber:
F: -2.6
R: -2.3

Summary: The comfort levels are high due to the thicker sidewall, the suspension is tuned to a softer spring/damper rate for daily driving. Unsprung weight has been reduced due to the smaller wheels, response has been improved as well. No rubbing or bottoming out even under spirited driving. The speedometer is unaffected due to the similar diameter with the OEM setup.

Will I have any issues with the following setup?

Motegi MR147 CM7
18x9.5 square setup
+45mm Offset

245/40 18 Tires

Ohlins DRV Coilovers

Goal is to fill the wheel well without rolling fenders, normal camber settings and minimal fender to tire gap (basically would like to lower it a little but not so I can’t go over speed bumps!). Just want to avoid any rubbing.

Cheers!

Seems like you have the right idea.

Thanks TeamRX8. Any idea if I can get away with 255/40?

I’d like to try not reduce the sidewall too much.

Looking at the specs that increases the diameter a little.

You would be better with 265-35-18 than 255-40-18

Help

I've been reading a lot and I understand wheel sizes and offsets now...but tire sizes are messing me up. I have everything factory on it right now...2007. I want to put Verde V09 Spry wheels....

Front and rear 18x9.5 offset 35

with these tires

Nitto NT05 front 255/35zr18
Nitto NT05 rear 265/35r18

Will that work? If it does, will it look OK? I'm looking for a wide look that fills out the fenders without having to modify the vehicle. Thanks
