Then you should know that the stock wheel is an 18x8 +50 and that an 18x9 +35 would put the spokes FURTHER AWAY from the brake caliper. Like I said before, a smaller wheel size fits. 2+2=5

hang on, ill draw you a picture, if the rim has a lip, aka spokes dont sit on the lip of the rim, the spokes wont be that far away. which is why i called out a specific rim as an example.

I looked at the wheel you are buying. It will be fine. The calipers on the 8 are fairly small but work very well. There is a good amount of room with the stock wheels. For the wheels to interfere they would need to have some crazy convex design to them.

I have 5.5" lips on my wheels. Caliper clearance has nothing do to with that. I'm assuming you're buying fake wheels, if this is the case, most all designs are mid brake clearance and you'll have no issues unless you have a BBK

18x9 +38 with 245/40 on stock suspension/height? Will I get rub? Can I go a wider tire? Will this look alright? (Looking at MB Weapons @ Discount Tire Direct).

Will fit fine, even with a 265/35R18. Will look dumb without some sort of suspension drop though.
I am currently running MB Weapons in 18x9 ET45 with 265/35R18 Kumho XS, and I have plenty of fender clearance being dropped on Progress Technology sport springs.

I'm ok with its stance now, especially as lowering will likely void parts of my bumper to bumper warranty I have for another year or so. I just had my whole rear suspension from replaced from the dealer for nothing, will likely do the same to the front soon.

What you said is a little contradicting, since the stance will change with the new wheels. Basically if you took your current stock setup (assuming 225/45R18 on stock 18x8 ET50 wheels) and added 22.7 mm spacers, you will get the same "look" in terms of how flush it sits with the fender. It will look like a 4x4, and a little dumb, but that is just my opinion on the matter. If you really want to keep your factory suspension warranty, then have the dealer install Mazdaspeed lowering springs. It will cost a fortune, but will be covered by factory warranty, unless your suspension warranty is not through Mazda.

I meant the diameter of the tire isn't changing (much...), just getting wider, and the wheel is getting wider, so ride height won't increase. Unless I'm not understanding something. The warranty is not through Mazda.

What I said about the look of the outboard side of wheel/tire is accurate. If you take your current stock setup and add 22.7 mm spacers, you will essentially have the same fender clearance.
At the end of the day.....it fits, no problem. It will look odd though without a drop.
