I want some opinions on a thought that i had. please don't tar and feather me for asking this, its just an idea.

with that said... I installed Sprint lowering springs on my 8 a few months ago and i LOVED the look of the car then. however i noticed that since lowering it, its much more noticeable how "tucked" in the wheels are. see my pics if you want to see what I'm talking about. basically i want to offset the wheels to get them more flush with the fenders. I'm worried tho about rubbing. i don't really have money to get the rims and tires i want right now, so I'm thinking about some wheel spacers. can i do it with the stock wheels and tires? if so how far? also when i go to get rims, what width / offset do you recommend? I will be staying with 18's for sure.

Well theoretically speaking, it depends how much those springs dropped your car down and how much you have to move those wheels out to compensate. Without any numbers (and feel free to correct me people) you could measure the distance from the wheel to the fender edge to see how far it would take to move the stock tires out there. I'm guessing though that you won't have enough bolt length on the hub though by the time you space it way out there to have sufficient thread engagement with placing the wheel nuts back on but that's just an assumption.

Judging by your pictures, it looks like you will not be able to get that rear tire out there flush with the fender without rubbing it. You probably will have to resort to putting some camber on it to stick the bottom of the tire out more to line up with the fender and get the look you want depending how far out you plan to put those wheels.

I'm sure some people have more experience with a few actually trying this. Hopefully they'll speak up.

 

25mm spacers are what most people use. The lower the car, the more sunken the wheels look and vice versa. That's why most setups that people run on lowered cars will look like complete *** on a stock ride height car.

 

I would just save up until I have enough money to buy the preferred wheels with the correct offsets and width to be "flush". However, if you want the cheap and inexpensive mod to flush your OEM wheels and sacrifising canyon runs/aggressive driving, I would go with 25mm or 30mm spacers.

OR! you can invest in a camber kit so you can save your tires from premature wear since you're lowered on springs.

I've been through that phase and bought spacers for my OEMS, then soon after I bought new wheels and had to go through the trouble to sell the spacers just so I can buy a camber kit, roll my fenders, then spend more money on alignment. If you're gonna spend money, spend money the right way the first time without having to go in circles. If not, leave it alone until you do.

I have a pair of 20mm spacers laying around that are for sale. They are made by H&R with extended studs. Let me know if you're interested.

 

Pretty sure you have different thread pitch so it wouldn't work. Also, we don't need a camber kit. Stock setup is good for anything 99% of people will throw at it.

 

As J said, your thread pitch is different.

Nissan = 12x1.25, Mazda = 12x1.5

from what i gather, spacers basically are out since i plan to autox it this spring.

so now im looking at some wheels. i found some 18x8 with a +35 offset which should help with the gap issue. however, as my car sits now, the back fender actually covers part of the tire. so i figure im going to have to go down to a lower profile tire. do you think that a 225/40/18 will give me enough room? also i understand i'll prolly have to roll the fenders, and thats no big deal.

 

Since you are gonna autox, do all these mods fit in your class? You could do spacers and then take them off before the autox. 18x8+35 is still pretty weak, so it will fit. In no way shape or form should you have to roll your fenders with that. You may want to look into 245/40 tires.

Atilla speaks the truth. Also next time, please give wheel width, offset, and tire size. Without those, it is all blind guesses.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of adding some spacers to the front of my car to try and even out the look of what I have in the rear. I am currently dropped on Ohlins coilovers.

What size spacers do you think I can run without any rubbing? I was thinking something subtle like either a 5mm or 10mm

I bought a set of 5mm spacers off ebay for something like $10 shipped. 10mm spacers cost a bit more, so get a set of 5mm to try and you can shell out more money for the 10mm if you still aren't satisfied. and then put the 5mm on the rear lol

 

So I just recently purchased Wheels from another member here, and I am not exactly sure what Tires I should buy, so hopefully I can get some help with that. Here are the Wheel sizes:

Front - 18 x 8.5
Rear - 18 x 9.5
Offset - +35

So what size Tires should I buy?

245/40/18 for the front and 275/35/18 for the rear...if you're lowered, it's going to rub...more camber or fender roll will fix that

you can fit the stock wheels on the 8.5, but putting stock tires on the 9.5 is asking for trouble
