Won't start after transmission install

After I did transmission install, went to crank car and starter made single click from trans/ starter area. Nothing. Everything checks out.... Except my shifter seems about 1-2 inches at least taller. Call me dumb, I know it, but in my haste I forgot to align ppf. Would that cause that issue? Any other things to check? Thanks!

Well of course the PPF should be aligned but I highly doubt that is your issue. When you say everything checks out what do you mean? Did you check voltage at the starter? Test fuses? When you installed a new transmission did you replace anything else? Don't be vague.

That clicking sound typically means a weak battery. Heard it on lot of cars that have been left for weeks without driving. The battery dies over time. Charge the battery up and see.

Yeah I replaced clutch, flywheel, slave and master, tob, pilot+seal. It sounds like the battery is dead. Just a click. But it was on the charger all day, and lights, everything work. I'll do more tests tomorrow. Just let me know if there is anything to check first

Well you said everything checks out but it doesn't sound like you tested anything. First off LOAD TEST the battery, if it's good then check voltage at the starter.

2 to 5 months? It's DEFINITELY dead. It might have enough power to turn the lights on, but not enough to crank the engine. Cranking the engine uses pretty much all of the battery's power. Just jump start it man. No need to replace it right now. We just wanna find out what the issue is.

Counterweight was binding the whole works. I can't seem to get it on properly... Keyshaft won't line up or go in deep. Any tips please? Getting ready to hit something.

Did you remove the tranny again?

You were too lazy to check voltage but you yanked the tranny out?

What aftermarket flywheel are you running? Somehow I get the feeling you are trolling us,

Act flywheel, Streetlight. I want to hit the counter weight on with a airgun then back the bolt out and attack flywheel and repeat but idk. And yeah I took starter off and noticed teeth marks. Then tried to rotate and realised it was jammed. I never fastened flywheel on all the way, thought it was on good enough. What's the best method?

I put the counter weight on the flywheel before installing last time. I had it on right but the big 54mm bolt wouldn't go on all the way...only went halfway. So what's the method to attach it on all the way. Because of it haning a half inch off, the PP was contacting the bellhousing, not allowing rotation

What counterweight did you use? And what are you putting the flywheel nut on with, are you using an impact or torque wrench?

Fx counter weight... That's not the problem I checked the OEM flywheel and key is exactly the same. And I am using airgun..I was afraid to turn it up too high in case I would damage anything. Should I put on counter weight first, put bolt on, torque it down, then take bolt off then attach flywheel? Or attach flywheel and bolt both down together. And should the flywheel be flush with the bolt?

What bolt are you talking about? Or do you mean the flywheel nut?

I have the Mazdaspeed flywheel instructions here but I have never done it this way before since I don't have the SST.

Yeah flywheelnut. What is the shaft key? Is it the thing that sticks out in the groove? Also I don't have a sst. Is impact sufficient?

You need to torque the flywheel nut. An impact will be hit and miss and you might not get it tight enough. You really need some kind of stop to do it properly.

If you are having issues with the key...take it out...and put the key back in. You may have screwed up the key if you tried to tighten the nut with things misaligned. The key should be tight in the groove...but still move. You want to put it in so the rearward edge is flush with the shaft near the threads....with the engine end sticking out more...that way when the nut tightens it will go down. if you do it the other way the key can jamb

Thanks guys! I forgot about the key lmao. It was jammed like you said, I dug it out and installed it correctly. Flywheel clutch and PP are good, and aligned. I have the trans on the jack ready to go, I'll finish it up tomorrow....

Rx8 won't rev over 3k

So I finished installing my new stage 2 clutch and flywheel. Transmission mated to the engine easily. Connected everything, filled tranny and diff. Well she cranked up like a beauty but after warming up, I tried to rev her up but it seemed sluggish and didnt rev past 3k. Anyone experience something like this?

I'll check that when I get back to town. Did not have much time to diagnose the problem. Thanks
