As the title says i'm going to upgrade my starter on my '04 this winter while the car is in storage. Should I go for an '07+ OE Mazda one or are these refurbished ones at these auto parts stores okay? I don't mind paying a little extra for quality.

The refurbished ones usually start life as Mazda cores. Should come out to the same thing. Just check that it's a refurb of the 2kW version, not the original 1.4kW version. The rebuilder should list the output.

 

Thank you! The remans are fairly reasonable. All the parts stores around me don't have them in stock and need to be ordered. No biggy. I'm going to swap starters, new plugs, and an oil change this winter.
