yeah this is exactly what I hear. Have you done anything to have this fixed? Because I really dont want to go over 3k everytime just because I want the noise to go away thats wasting gas.

Same noise...different RPM
You seem to have a problem with advice.....if you don't want it don't ask.
If you don't realise that the intake is different on the Auto's...and the PCM programming is different...then do some research....or listen to those of us that have
End of my involvement in this..................

There are so many sounds - in and out of the car.... Inside ones are in other threads (and I still could not find the culprit for the one around the steering wheel...)
Anyway, there are some air (pressure) escape sounds due to the air jets used by the oil injection pump - claimed as normal by dealers and people. Another similar one is made by the air injection unit in the catalyst. Also considered normal. I think this is the one grl10 hears. It can also be a vacuum leak (tubes in the intake duct, vacuum ports on the manifold, etc.)
As for the fast metallic spinning sound, I think it is the rotor inside the AIR unit. On mine it was, anyway.

If it sounds like someone inhaling (in a raspy way - like Darth Vader) every now and again, I think it's the AC condenser. Mine makes that noise all the time when I have the air on and sounds like it's coming from the passenger door area. Give that a look see.
I wouldn't worry about the noise too much. I don't think anything is broken. It's just a puzzler though.... And I'm a curious kinda guy... :D

"Air injection unit in the catalyst" ? What is that? Does the rotary inject air into the catalytic converter? The Pssst sound I hear seems to be coming from the passenger rear area of the car. So this might be sorta in the right area.
Directly behind the passenger side shock mount you will see the rear of a small electric fan. It kicks on from time to time adding oxygen to the converter in an effort to reduce emissions.

Yes, it is a large vertical black plastic canister that has a fan mounted towards the bottom, inside. The unit is on rubber mounts and has one rubber tube coming out. In the defloding procedue, I think that you need to disconnect it....
Interesting fact: it has a Mercedes-Benz connector on it Talking about integration and globalization..... there you have it, your own part of Daimler-Chrysler onto a Mazda, a partner of Ford Motors...

I can't be sure about this, but I would characterize this sounds like gear whine. I personally have a noise that comes from the rear of the car...if I add more throttle it disappears, let off the gas a little and it comes back... I wonder if this is the fuel pump or the rear diff. It's not terribly loud, if I have the radio on higher that 6 or 7 I couldn't hear it.
Maybe not what your all referring too...
