Sorry for not posting back for so long, busy with school starting. I got my new motor under warranty. I asked the dealer to let me speak with the engineers they were waiting on and after an hour on the phone it was decided that it would be replaced under warranty. I got the car back last friday.

While the motor was out I threw in a ACT Clutch. The flywheel will be going in this week. The biggest difference with the motor is that around 5.5-7k rpm the old motor would slightly drop off and pick up again. This new motor keeps power. There is also more high end torque.

The clutch from ACT grabs so well that I killed it twice when I first pulled out of the dealership. Took about 2 miles to get used to. There is a noticble difference in the power transfer with the new clutch. I hope that the flywheel will make a noticble difference.

I have a new RX-8 MT engine. My 2004 was stalling and loosing power in hot weather in Arizona and the dealer said they wanted to replace the engine. My warranty still had a few months to go so I was lucky. The car loaner company said they had a number of 30 day rentals from this dealer for RX-8 engine replacements lately. So were is the RECALL Mazda? A new engine costs $4k. Better get urs checked.

^ So now after having the car (RX-8) for 4 hours the car is back in the shop.
Though now Hertz lets me call them and tell what kind of car I would like to drive. They'll get it for me. .Just picked up another car (Pontiac G6). That was all they had.
Tomorrow I'm taking it back and getting a 350Z. Just took an Infinity G35 (4 door) back today.

Well, I suppose it's time I piped up and joined this club. The service techs tell me the lack of compression in my engine is "definitely" the apex seals, but that MNAO is telling them they've "never seen such low compression" and they intend to reject the warranty claim because I only have maintenance records going back approximately a year (including the last 2 at the same dealership where she's been sitting, idle, for a week now). Any advice from the crowd?

Ahhhhh....ok! Add me to the new engine club!!!

Had a major loss of horse power and a ridiculous loss of gas milage.

I have an 05 A/T. At about 30 thousand miles, the 8 started to idle very rough. I took it in to the dealer, and was told that the spark plugs were bad. Then, the 8 would run great for the first 500 miles. After that, it would gradually start up again. Until it would want to stall when I would come to a stop. Then summer came around, and I started to use the AC alot more. Thats when it started to get worse. If I used my 8 for a long while, the engine would start to knock something feirce when I would come to a stop with the AC on. If I turned off the AC, it would quiet down a bit, but the knocking was still there.

After many visits to the dealership, and the same excuses' that were made before, I took a trip down to my home town in the Deep South Texas. The 8 was great on the trip down there. A 568 mile trip! 8 hours of constant driving, the 8 didnt flinch at all! However the next day, it started to act up again, and the check light came on. So I didnt use it much after that while down there. I then took the 8 to the local dealer in the Rio Grande Valley, and they worked on it for 8 hours. I had to wait there at the dealer, cuz I was ready to leave directly from the dealer back up to Dallas.

The guys told me that it was the spark plugs, then the coils, amoung other things. Finally, after sitting there for 9 hours, the guys came to me, and told me that they were trouble shooting it, and still couldnt figure out what it was. Finally, during the shift change, their rotary guru came in and worked it for 3 hours, and finally came to the conclusion that it was an internal problem with the motor. They ordered the engine on Monday and it arrived today. They got me a rental to come back to Dallas for work. Now I have to drive back and pick her up this weekend.

Im happy that im getting a new engine. But all of the long driving is going to kill me. I have 36k on my 8 now. They said that the warrenty will continue at 36k all of the way to 50k.

The only consern I have has to do with the transmission. How do older and used transmissions hold up against a brand new engine. Has anyone ever had to have the transmission replaced due to a new engine??? I know this is the case with regular piston engines in most cases.

A couple. If the car has not yet been in for the 4206F recall, take the car to a different dealer - say the magic words - have them do the tests involved and hopefully fail the motor under the 4206F program. If you don't know the magic words there are plenty of threads running here you can search on to get them. If this won't play, see if you can track down other dealers that have done maintenance work on the car and ask if you could get a copy of their records under your car's VIN.

Good Luck!

+1 that's crap. A warranty is a warranty. If the car is in warranty and they have diagnosed that it's an internal engine problem then they need to fix it FOR FREE.

You can call MNAO yourself and see what the problem is and ask or demand that they honor the warranty. Otherwise you can take it to a better dealer that will take care of you. I suspect you don't want these guys fixing your car anyway if they are hassling you about it.

Unfortunately the car will no longer start and thus taking it to another dealer would cost me the towing fee. :/ But I do not know about the 4206F recall - perhaps these are magic words I can use with the current dealership?

That is exactly what I thought about the warranty, but MNAO customer service told me, in cold terms, that they are under no obligation to assist me if I do not have documentation of every scheduled maintenance since the car was purchased. They also refused to discuss it further until a "final" decision had been made, which has been delayed since at least last Friday.

When I bought the car the dealership told me they had never sold an RX-8 to a woman before. Now my friends and family are telling me that if a man had brought the car in for service, there would probably not be this level of B.S. She's the first car I've ever purchased myself and despite my affection, I'm pricing out selling her for less than the outstanding loan. I mean, what kind of car passes a full circle inspection and oil change at a dealership at 39K and then completely dies at 41K?

next question to ask them- if it was tested at the recall in april and checked out fine then why has it failed now and what would proof of service prior to that check have to do with it failing now?

also where did you go for service before the 2 they have on record?

To be fair to the dealership, they say it should definitely be covered and they don't know why Mazda is giving them guff about it.

Tricky question, that. For the first few oil changes I went to the dealership where I purchased it. I called that dealership, which has since been sold and has entirely different personnel, and they claim they have no records aside from a single recall. Now, everyone including the lawyer I consulted says that's baloney, but what's a girl to do? I don't remember how many times I went, nor when.

After that, God, who knows. In most cases the amount of forethought and consideration was about like "Hey, it's sunny out, my window sticker says I'm due - I'll drop it off at the place where you get a free car wash with an oil change." We have two cars and honest to God I don't remember where we took which car or why going back to 2005. I remember going to a place a few times where I could drop the car off (whichever car, I don't remember) and walk over to Lowes to look at gardening supplies. Sometimes I would drop her off at a full service gas station, sticker stop, or car wash/lube near my office. I periodically used the KwikKar lube near my house (for which I was able to produce receipts). I kept extra oil in the trunk in case she was low during a fuel stop, I followed what my window stickers said, and I went on my merry little way.

It makes me feel careless now, but it's the same way I treated my old Mustang convertible and our current Mustang and I guarantee you neither of their engines have ever had to be replaced.

Indeed, they towed the car to the dealership where she now rests, which I thought was excellent service on their part. I was really a big fan of Mazda about 7 days ago.

Check your bank statements for any records of service. If you don't have those, then go to the bank and ask them. I hope you didn't pay cash.
And you don't have any reciepts for anything related to service in the glove box?

Well I just got the call and I will be getting a new engine. I have an 04 A/T and it was starting to have a very rough idle at times and stall on occassion. I was experiencing power loss when i tried to accelerate at times, I took into the dealer. Should get my car back around monday or tuesday.
