I have a 2004 A/T 49,600miles. Well my car has been at a mazda dealership for about a month now waiting on getting a new engine put in. I'm getting aggrevated and impatient. At cold starts the car would have a loud and rough idle and when heated it would knock when parked or in drive at a stop. So I take my car in to a dealership. The same day the dealership called me and said they hear the problem and think its the engine. Well they call mazda, and mazda tells them to put in a new torque convertor. A littler over a week later, dealership calls me and tells me they put in the torque convertor but it still makes the noise. They call mazda again, and mazda tells them to put in a new catlytic convertor. A week passes and they call me again saying they put in a new cat. but the problem was still there. Dealership calls me on 5/30 and tells me that madza is going to put in a new engine. Tells me that it will take 3-4 business days for them to get the engine. I call today 6/8 and they tell me that the engine has not came in and they have not received a response from mazda about why its taking a long time for the engine to come in. Do ya'll think I should just wait it out? Should I raise a little hell? It is under warr. and I got a rental. Maybe I can get in touch with Mazda somehow? What gets me thinking is that the dealership said they THINK it's the engine. Hey maybe the knocking noise is still there after the new engine and I get a new tranny. Then i'll have a brand new car!

Question to all those who have had their engines replaced. Did anyone get confirmation on what was replaced? I'm curious what was carried over besides: intake, exhaust, etc. Did we get new: plugs, wires, coils, pulleys, etc?

New engine- Help!!
Just got a 2004 RX8 in April had 21k miles on it. Towed to dealer yesterday now has 23k, was running fine came to a stop sign and engine warning lite flashed then engine died. Rolled it off the road since it didn't want to restart sat for 5 min. then it restarted and ran like crap the next 5 miles home where I called the dealership. Just was told that it needs a new engine, but Mazda wants a oil change history , got the reciept from the one oil change we did , but not from previous owner(bought this from a dealership across the road from the mazda dealer it is now resting at). What do I need to do to make sure they replace the engine under warranty?? Then what should I do to make sure this engine last longer the 20k some odd miles???Had a Jag with 220,000 miles we gave to our son after we bought this and he runs the the stew out of it every day..Can't believe mazda would build such an unreliable model..love the car and handeling , but have serious questions about the reliabilty of the engine...

Thafke,
There was a user just last month that had to have an engine replaced and he did his own oil changes and had no proof. Mazda replaced his engine under warranty, after a couple of calls. Look for it on the site and PM him. I think with such a long trail of engine replacements, they will be hard pressed to say it was abuse...

new engine club
All right boys and girls just got the call and the new or should I say reman engine goes in next week. Thanks to Bob ( he is the bomb) the service manager at Delray Mazda where the bad ride originally came from, he did in a half of day what the dealer here couldn't do in 5. He cut thru the bull that mazda was shoveling and got them to honor their warranty. taking a trip down to the keys the first week in july, so it will definitly get a good breakin, we'll let ya know how it goes, any info on the care and feeding of our new engine would be greatly appreciated.

Mazda tried to make getting a new engine as a last resolution for me. They put in a new torque conv. and a new cat. before they replaced the engine. They also racked up a $1500 bill from hertz. They only replaced the engine and nothing else, to answer another member's question. I thought spark plugs was an automatic but they switched that over. I was scared to asked if they put in a new oil filter and oil :x .

I feel your pain guys. I just joined the club myself, or am about to. For the last year, when driving at distance with the car good and heated up, the engine would make rattling (later id'd as marbles in blender) noise that sounded more like a deisel engine. Anyway, had loss of power, rough idle, etc. Dealer replaced Cat, plugs, wires, coil packs, motor mounts, you name it.
Finally got worse and car's dying if rev's drop below 3000 or so, and I have a loss of compression in one chamber, so they broke down and finally agreed to give me motor. Apparently the wait is 3weeks for one.
But the good news is that I'm getting new clutch done and RB flywheel put on at the same time!

Joined the replacement club!
Yep, finally had local dealership agree to replace engine after several years worth of maintenance receipts concerning no power, stalls, flooding, etc. Had nothing but problems with this engine shortly after purchased new. And ,yes I was aware of this engine's ideosyncrasies before I bought having talked to several rotary owners.
Said compression was bad and that engines are backordered two to three weeks. I guess I'm not the only one now waiting.
I only hope that the "techs" here can replace this without screwing something else up!
My last rotary! Shame because it is a good looking car, fun to drive. Can't deal with the unreliability though. Oh well, buyer beware.
Numbers:
2004 A/T with 46000+ miles, well maintained, all stock, latest flash, driven moderately meaning I didn't baby the engine but would ocassionally take up to redline with manual mode and the car was a daily driver so some stop and go traffic also. I hope that is not the cause of these problems?

Well nothing but problems with my car. I got the car back yesturday and they said there was a loose vacuum hose. Now I had to take my car back in today because the engine and AT light came back on. They don't know how to put in a engine or what? Only 450 miles on new engine and already in the shop twice. I was following the break-in process.

Yeah I'm still driving mine. It hasn't lost power, actually it feels stronger and louder. But at least once a day she heats up.
So I've made it one week and have 2 weeks to go. Will she last that long?

With all of the "new" well reman motors failing, if and when my goes pop, I'll rebuild it myself.. I never relied on service dept's to fix things right the first time.
A good tech at a dealership that really is a mechanic is a hard find these days.
Are the stats still in favor of more 8 with A/T's failing? Or has it started to level out between the M/T and A/T?

count me in, no clue when it's going to arrive but i'm slated for one as well. Auto, 50k on the clock, car running like **** and sputtering, dying, stalling, like it's not getting enough spark or a vacuum leak is present or something.

now new motor mount
Got my new engine 6/28 went on a little 1900 mile trip to the Keys and every thing went great Got back the 7th of July and went to have my oil changed yesterday. On the way to the dealership cruised in to Mcdonalds for breakfast and she started to idle really rough so rough that I had to shut A/C off. When the dealership looked at her they said that a engine mount had collapsed and had ordered a new one. Set me up with a rental, but I just don't think a motor mount would cause a rough idle Any ideas??
