Buckeye and Zoom,

My only point was that MY car (an 04) is brand new. The car is not used, it is not a demo, it more than likely has less than 15 miles on it. I live very close to this dealership and the car had only been moved once or twice in almost a year until I came in to buy it.

I think it's reasonable to assume that my car has no damage as of yet (unless some tester was having a grand ol' time with it prior to shipping). So the question (not to the dealer but, to MNAO) was, "Why on an 04 that has not left the lot since arrival do you have to wait?" It is what it is but, this is an unfortunate first experience to be having with this car and this dealer. There was one other 04 waiting so at least one other buyer is waiting as well. They bought their car on the 6th and came to pick it up on the 9th to this news. I feel bad for the dealers in this situation... I'm sure they are taking alot of heat. Furthermore, this experience is polar opposite to my Miata ownership and I'm trying not to let it tarnish my impression and respect for Mazda.

Your dealer faces huge federal fines if they release this car to you. It's Group one. You just have to wait.

It's YOUR CAR!!! They have no right to hold it. They can't even perform a recall without your permission.

Gomez, can you change your first post to a sort of mini-FAQ page, what's known and what isn't, wha'ts being done, like a just-the-facts post?

If I cut and pasted all my posts in this thread, I could, I s'pose. How about you ask what you want instead....and we'll see if I can answer your question?

i assume that all the Mazda Dealers in Vegas have been visited by the engineer team. However they are researching a completly different issue.

I guess there are a couple of big questions....but the most important to this recall maybe

Why are there different procedures for Group 1 and Group 2 cars? What is the difference? If the car is in Group 2, inspect, reflash and send on the way. If it's damaged, then replace the parts? Why can't they do the same for a Group 1 car?

Anyone know this?

One other thing....can someone read the recall doc from FinishlinePerformance and tell me if this makes sense...

On the first page it says to verify the VIN, or build date. Group 1's don't even get inspected?

Group one repair/inspection proceedures have yet to be issued. Stay tuned. Will happen around the end of this month.

But if the recommend that I leave it and I refuse and later it does have damage they could claim it was because I didn't heed their warnings and it is now my responsibility.

If you're really worried about this I suggest you cancel your service visit. You'll be in there in a few weeks anyway. They can dump the oil then.

I wouldn't say really worried, I just wondered if others had experienced it. The wording on the Mazda bulletin dated July 14 was pretty strong. I wonder the problem is bigger than they are indicating.

Don't panic. I took my car (an early build 2004, in group 1) to the dealer two days ago for a Check Engine light. I talked to the service writer about the recall, he knew about it, and told me he wouldn't even know what to do for my car until August. He reflashed my car for the CEL and sent me on my way. No one is going to hold your car, unless perhaps they detect that your fuel tank is damaged and it would be grossly unsafe for you to drive it.

I am giong to try and use this problem to my benefit. Because I cannot take delivery for my car, even though I have paid a deposit, the car loan is active, etc... I'm thinking of having the MazdaSpeed suspension parts installed on my car. Might as well get them to do it while they have it.

How hard do you think I can push the dealer to get a discount. Will they be receptive to this. It's not really their fault that they cannot let me take the car home. But I am hoping they are a little guilty/frustrated themselves. Any suggestions on how to approach this?

I realise this is a slight hijacking of the thread, but we have discussed the same thing for 25 pages - a quick change of pace maybe?? PM me if you think the reply does not belong here. Thx

what situations does the pcm idle at 2k?

also, just to clarify, the 13 engine failures arent related to the recall? if its separate, is there any info on why those happened?

i have already explained that twice in this thread. cars built up to december whent he fire in the plant happened DO NOT HAVE THE EXTRA THERMAL BLANKET. they re started production on March 22nd. All cars built since then DO HAVE THE EXTRA THERMAL BLANKET. Theoretically these group 2 cars should not have fuel tank damge which is the major concern. But they are going to inspect those tanks anyway to be on the safe side. If they are fine- flash and on the way. Because they already have the "extra part" the other group doesnt. This gets a bunch of cars thru the process quickly and gets the Group 2 cars not sold yet back onto the sales lot and moving again. If they find damge on a Group 2 Have the Thermal Blanket car then it is not allowed to go anywhere until the instructions for this group "GROUP 2 CARS THAT HAVE DAMAGE" are in hand and they have the parts.

Group 1 Cars have to wait to be "processed". because they need to get the Thermal blankets in to the dealers in order to perform the Recall. If there is no Damage- apply blanket flash and onthe way you go. If there is damage- they have to replace the parts and install the thermal blanket and flash. Right now there are not enough tanks in the states- so cars that go in early that have damage will be held. so dont make your appointments until after you receive the letter and you know your dealer has enough parts for your car if needed.

no they cant its a RECALL. the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT says a RECALL is work they HAVE to do to your car when requested. They cant bill you for it ever and they always have to do it. If you sell the car and its sold 5 more times and that 7th owner takes it to a dealership for service guess what? they have to do the recall work free of charge

Is their anyone out the that can confirm group 2 cars are actually being sold and sent of the lot? I imagine if the fix is out there and just requires a reflash, the stops sales order should be done, correct?

sorry i cant say more on the exact cause of the idle as i am protecting sources at the moment. i will say more later in the week as i said i would this past friday

the dead AT engines in vegas and texas et al are not related to this and while we know what is happening with them "generally i havent talke dto the engineer team) no one knows the "why it is happening in those higher avgerage temperature places) the cause isnt exactly know- or- well its carbon buildup from runnign very slow and low rpm all the time- but we dont knwo why its more prevalent in those areas. lets stop talking about them here and keep that issue in its own threads for backround onthat issue see this thread and current info int he "failed engine bad news" thread

ok.

I have another question though... should the deformation of muffler grommets in the Group 2 procedure also indicate problems with Group 1 cars? I was wondering because the thermal blanket or whatever other difference might change heat distributions.

we dont know because the group 1 procedures arent out yet- but that would be a safe assumption.

Well , talked to my service rep today , real nice team at 5 star in macon, at 1st they where unaware of all this but they took the time to look some things up (and on this forum some) then found the recall info ,ran a copy and took it to his manager. So when the parts and details are known they will call me. They thanked me and us for the info and heads up. They said that my cat back(racing beat twin muffler design) would possibily mask the symptoms of the deformed grommets and they would more than likely (on my group one car) assume that a heat problem had occured and proceed from there. THIS WAS AN OPINION NOT THE RELEASEDED INSTRUCTION. That is also my lodgic. I hope at the same time I can get the new battery/starter and plugs plus the a/c fix. It's going to be a busy time.
