I can't belive that a heater control unit is bad because of bad solder ! now I gotta try the diy quick fix which requires pulling the whole consle and radio unit to spot solder 3 points, if that doesn't work its 500 $ for the part and still have to pull the whole unit out myself or pay a dealership almost 1000k to repair ac/heating.

I don't actually. 91,000 miles and other than a cat failure from missing a coil replacement, a rear shock failure from New England roads, and a shattered clutch from old age at 89,600, my 8 has been flawless.

The positive thing I see in rx8 besides being fun to drive is that they made all the componets fairly easy to work on ,(ie, changing coils,plugs,starter,suspension parts ect. ) as long as you have proper tools its easier than most newer cars to work on !!!!!!!

Mine is 2005 ,57,000 miles ,no turbo and no problems till the last couple months exept for the one common flood issue before,i learned then to let it warm up and sit for a moment before shutting down to burn excess feul .

would you recomend coil change and plug wire change with a 60,000 mile tune up ?? still got stock coils and wires for 7 years now

still stock starter too !! having to turn it over more now to fire up than before . Just changed my plugs but that didn't help

If that was directed to me (I can't tell), no, I don't have original factory coils and wires. Just like I don't have original factory gasoline, oil, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, coolant, front brake pads, front brake rotors, transmission fluid, diff fluid, air filter, oil filter, or any other maintenance item.

Coils, wires, and plugs need to be changed every 30,000 on average. Sometimes they can last as long as 50,000, but that is exceedingly rare. Also exceedingly rare is coils only lasting 5,000 miles. Both extremes can happen, but both are rare. You are likely somewhere in between. If you are still on the originals at 60,000, no wonder you have all sorts of issues.

LOL , I hear ya !! lucky on that one I guess , I make sure to change oil at 3k ,but other than that I only changed plugs like 4 times sinse 2006, still using 5-20 castrol oil.

Replace your coils and wires. They are shot. You should be replacing them for the 2nd time, not the 1st time.

And the best after market coil and wires you reccomend ?? There is a site 5xracing that has 8.5 or 10 wires and coils i think the brand name starts with an M can't remember the whole name. I may as well buy the good ones to replace old parts maybe 250- 350 for all plugs,coils,and wires

There is only 1 option other than OEM for coils, and that is the BHR kit, which runs you $500 for coils and included wires (blackhaloracing.com).

The best plugs are OEM plugs.

There is no real benefit to upgrading wires unless you just want to go longer between wire replacements, or have the BHR kit that is sending a stronger spark.

Contact Mazmart (username here, Mazmart.com) to order everything for reasonable prices.

wow, total thread jacking, but whatever, my issue is fixed anyhoo. Pay attention to the thread as I was asking about wires earlier. Basically everyone says go with whatever, but you usually get what you pay for. I personally don't think the thicker wires are any better. I'm going with NGK wires. I heard BHR had some after market coils but I didn't see them listed on their site.

I assume that you have a 4-port auto with a 4 speed transmission. Swapping to a 6 speed transmission is more expensive than the trade in value lost if you just traded in your 8 for a 6 speed (auto or manual). The cost of the transmission + the ECU + wiring is more cost and effort than you would expect.

It's a full kit, because the coils they use aren't plug and play. They don't fit the mount, they don't fit the space (well, they do, barely), and they don't fit the connectors. BHR puts everything into a plug and play kit.
