Unhappy A/C switch problem

I have what I believe to be a problem. My A/C comes on in the winter randomly even without the Defrost being on. The Manual says the A/C will come on to assist the defrost but the light on the switch and display will not illuminate. This is not the case it comes on radomly several times a day and will only go off if I turn it off. My dealer and Mazda say the manual is wrong and "this is the way it is engineered" I am trying to find out if anyone else has this problem or do they all work like this as Mazda implies. I cant see this is a normal or acceptable function, unlike my dealer and Mazda. Anyones help would be very much appreciated.

I know that the compressor will turn on in almost any mode except for when the upper vents (face vents) are on but I have never seen the AC light turn on by itself.
Maybe you can introduce yourself and post some information about you and your car. BTW, welcome to the club!

Thanks for your help, I bought my RX8 In October In Vancouver and have been arguing with Mazda and the dealer ever since. The manual says that the compressor comes on to assist the defrost but clearly says that the light will not come on. However not only does it come on in the defrost mode it comes on randomly 3 - 4 times a day, both on the switch and the display, wether in defrost or not. Mazda say its the way its enginered and cant change it. I say why would you engineer something to do something that does not make any sense. But then they said they dont consider it to be a big deal and are not prepared to fix it as its the same with all RX8s, "Thats the way it is" I dont believe them and would like to find out if others have the same issue.

Thanks for your help or anyone else who can provide any info.

Robert

You can escalate the problem up through the methods in the manual if you have not done so already. Don't spend your energy auguing with the dealer. You may also want to get the behaviour on video if you can and maybe talk to another dealer. What you describe does not sound normal. Does your compressor turn on even with the face vents on?

To Tell the truth I am sick of talking to the dealer and Mazda Canada, between the pair of them they are the worst I have ever dealt with. On top of everything the dealers salesman told me that the car had run flat tires, Tire pressure sensors. Plus it was equipped for Satelite radio and had a tape player, all of which appear as non functioning buttons on the display. Never before have I purchased a car with so many inaccuracies in the manual. This was justified by the fact that it is an American manual. An American manual in French and English. either Mazda were just to cheap to do it right or they felt it was no big deal giving Canadians an American manual. I thought of the Video thing but its not consistant I may have to sit there for a while, some days, not often it may not happen at all. I have decided as you suggested not to waste my time any more, I am going to take legal action.

Thanks for all you help.
