Smelly Clutch

Hello All!

new to the site but i have a question. i have a 2005 rx8 in the loosing blue and it has about 2k on it. when my wife drives it she likes to rev the clutch too much before letting it out and you can smell the clutch burn pretty bad. i am trying to get her to not rev it much, but i was wondering if other people have experienced it as well.

the clutch is not slipping or anything but she has done it a few times.

any help if this is common or not. it even happened to me when i was on a steep hill and was backing up it you could smell the clutch burn pretty bad!

thanks!

If this carries on, say bye bye to your clutch

she is slipping it, that's where the smell is coming from

however my clutch smelled from high rpm drops when it was new and went away with further use

Check out other threads on this site regarding clutch longevity. These things were not built to be bulletproof at the factory. Many who like to load up on the clutch are seeing premature failures and are upgrading to after-market parts.

Not a lot of moving mass in the rotors and flywheel, so it takes more finesse to get the car moving compared to a heavier piston engine. The clutch has a little more work to do. But ya' shouldn't be *burning* it. If it's an intimidating hill, use the parking brake maneuver to get started.
