Unhappy Axial Flow SS

I installed the shifter axial flow short shifter about 3 weeks ago. 2 days ago, I started having problems. It would not engage reverse. After several attempts it finally did and I saw no more of these problems until today. On my way out of the Shell, I took off and once I got to third gear it didn't want to go in. It looked like it was in but I knew third wasn't engaged, I slowly let out the clutch and heard a very small grinding noise. Then I was about to pull into the main road and it happened again. Only this time it wouldn't engage 1st, 3rd, 5th, I think 4th worked but I skipped it from a start in 2nd to 6th. After about 5 minutes of cruising at 54, I downshifted to fifth(clutch in) and then 4th and third with no problems. I then put it in third and blew around about 7 cars. Right before I got home, I stopped and made a short run to see how it reacted. Everything went right in, no problems at all. I am starting to notice it is happening more often though.

SO, before I go and rip out all the center console crap and check what's wrong with the shifter, what do you guys think it is? It's interesting that 1st, 3rd, and 5th, all the gears in which the shifter is pointing up(lever back) that it didn't want to engage.

BTW, just moved this thread to issues and problems.

hmmmmm - can't see how the ss could cause that . I initially had probs with reverse and had to grind some material off the blocking dog to get it to go in .
Put the old one back in & see if it goes away (should only take you 10 mins now you know how to do it) would be my suggestion .

RP has seen a couple of trannys that were not in spec form the factory. I believe the out of spec ones have a letter following the part number. You may want to search for the thread about that.

If it's an early version of shifter there is a notch that can be filed down and then no more problems.

Read the SS thread or call AFE.

I'd put the stock shifter back in...and if it works then blame it on the shifter........

I would bet that it's more likely a shift fork/tranny problem.......
