Apex seals don't cause bad*smoking...that's usually the oil control rings

As you asking if we think you should buy a car with a badly smoking engine?

Mine used to smoke all the time, turns out it was a failing cat so I removed it. Better than ever now.

***But unless YOU KNOW EXACTLY what's causing the smoking and YOU KNOW EXACTLY how to fix it, walk away.***

That's likely a coolant seal... Nevertheless; it will need, either a rebuild or a new engine. An easy way to tell is the coolant reservior will loose fluid(low coolant light ON) and it'll probably have a hard time restarting the engine once the car is warm.

You're really set on it eh? Well if you can do it, more power to you.

Used engines usually run between $1,500 and $2,500 off of ebay, same as a basic rebuild. New engines are about a grand or two more if you order them from the right place.

If you are paying $3K or so it is likely worth it...otherwise you are buying a rolling shell

Um I paid 3,400 for mine and I have some knowledge of rotry and more now in the rx8 , before you do anything , check how much rebuilt kit cost , if you know someone good nd cheap and is good for you do it. But think about it apex seal , o rings , seals, rebuild , parts if their damaged , labor , more parts , time and if need ignition coil soon that's a chunk again . Add it up it adds up quick, I did it and took me 6 months but I had a few projects , 4 kids an expensive blue pit lol ooo and a wife that required time. For me it was worth all the pennies I had.

his first price was 38 when i told him it wasnt the seals he droped it to 3 but i still think thats a bit much, the car has 125k on it and a rebuilt title im thinking more like 22 that might be a low offer but the fact is if i have to rebuild the motor im going to build it so im probably going to be several thousand more into it then stock, i havnt done much price checking but but going based off the other cars ive built i mean a good build on a sr20 cost me 6500 and that was keeping stock stroke and same thing on my rb25 was close to 9 i know there is a little more to those motors then the rotarys but still i dont see it costing me less then 5 and i dont want to screw myself and loose a **** ton of money, if it didnt have a rebuilt title then i would be fine thats the only part that scares me.

I would decline based on the rebuilt title.....the thing is basically worthless unless you plan on fixing it yourself and driving it into the ground

Save yourself the grief and buy a decent one for less than this one will cost to fix
