Autozone sells them at 130, tell them u have a 2007 rx8 or they will give u the slower starter.

One problem is that autozone starter and alternaters are known to fail fast.

Only had mine in for about 3 months but it has been fine . It is basically a stock Mazda starter that has been rebuilt . I actually disassembled it before putting it on the car and found brand new brushes and everything inside in tip top shape.

I see no reason why it shouldn't last just as long as a new one .

But go pay $400 for a new Mazda one if that makes you feel better.

Lifetime warranty dont mean **** if u have to change it every 3 months. Some ppl been thru 4 starter in 2 months. That should say somehing about their quality.

At first i dont believe it just like u do, got my friend an alternator from az for his 99 es300, the alternator starts fine and got 14.7 juice at i think 80 amp, tested with my mulitmeter. Wih a new battery. 3 months later his car died cuz the alternator died, he bought a reman toyota part, no issues since, and that was about 2 yRs ago

Assume they use new bushings, but what if they didnt grease them properly? What if the bushig's quality is not as good? There are so many ways to skin a cat and there is a reason why az starters are known to failed. Everybody sells our starter for at least 200 somehthing, only az got it this cheap, i wonder why huh.

I didnt get mazda reman, i got a beck and arnely starter, it starts the same if not better than my mazda starter when new. Its not lifetime warranty but its long enough for me to feel safe, best thing about them is that they are known to sell quality reman parts.

I don't think the OP is interested in fixing his car. He posted this in a WTB Engine thread:

Thats 6200 delivered to your doorstep. You can part out the motor parts and make back some money too. Engine cores on here are going for 500 with blown seals. add in the accessories and you're talking over 1k in engine parts easily on here.

the point of fixing it up is so i can sell it/trade it in/ or something. So sue me that id rather just sell it as is as long as i get what i need out of it so i don't have to crawl up under it again. lol. I'm spending a few bucks to get this thing as close to new as possible so i can get the most out of it. If i am getting offered 5500 for it in the current shape its in, once im done with the starter, buffing, fixing paint imperfections and chips, and replace my straight pipe with a resonated one. i should get over my 6200 easily. If not... hey i have a nice looking rx8 again lol. 2 years to pay it off... maybe i'll turn it into my weekend car if it doesn't sell idk lol. but id rather sell it. relieve some monthly payment so i have some breathing room again. times are tuff dude.

so taking out the vfad has helped acceleration and no miac or flooding/low idle after pegging it out. still wont hot start.. but i didn't think that'd help any. new starting coming soon.

oh also forgot to mention i have noticed a slight increase in mpg. I have a few more days of driving to be sure of exact numbers but it sure seems that way. Im also running seafoam in the gas tank right now too. Will probably continue to do so for the next several fill ups too. It smoked so much the last time i think i could stand to do a full soak again. it smoked more than anyone ive ever seen on youtube... but its never had it done in 105k so thats why. lol

Op, instead of spending more cash on the starter, do a home compression test, to at least have some type of idea if all this is even worth it.

why do you call me op? ya i figure i might have lower compression. but is it an apex seal blown, to much build up, or is another seal bad, ssv stuck open? that test only gives me a number not a solution, at least not one that doesn't require 10k worth of tests and engine replacements and crap. a new starter.. turns faster thus starting my engine hopefully if its fast enough. Even when it wont hot start i can ALWAYS push start it so thats why i think the starter is going out or needs a faster one.

You know, google can help you figure out what these abbreviations means.
SHTF - Something Hit The Fan

Just replace the word Something with another one that Starts with S, is 4 letters long, and has hit in it.

BC.

This sucks, no room in the paycheck for the starter this week. However, I have offically ran the gas down to the line. After removing the fvad i am now up to 21 mpg!! in case you all have forgotten i was at 13-14 mpg! So i guess it wasn't working and running super rich which i always knew it was but could never figure out why. Also probably why my cats are bad, and have had flooding issues after getting off the interstate. I'm so happy! lol. I know its not as high as rated but sometimes i do get on it, and i am getting close to needing a tune up. So its likely that part of the equation is fixed. Now ... someone just give me a new starter please. lol
