The Truth About Full Synthetics and Rotaries
I change the oil on my Turbo Rotary every 1500-2000 miles.
On a non turbo Rotary I have no problem running 3K miles.
Personally, I would rather run a Dino oil and save the money, since I am changing oil so much.
Plus, I was under the impression the Synthetic Oils do not burn well when pumped through the OMP.
Am I wrong in this assumption?

I personally use Amsoil Full synthetic. They have an awesome TSB on the Renesis and using their full synthetic in it. I've had no problems. Here's a link if anyone wants to do a little reading. Great read, and I know the oil is expensive, but I loved it in my other cars and once I read the service bulletin I decided to go ahead and put it in this car. Engine runs great, better then when I first bought it from the dealer.

We're coming up on the 10th anniversary, so it's a good thing the "truth" finally came out!

honestly, both RP and Amsoil hype their **** like it's the best thing since slice bread.
but at LEAST Amsoil has the quality to back them up ... Not saying RP is bad but it's just not as great as they claim themselves to be.

How many have asked the service department at mazda what they use?
Every oil change until my warrenty ran out they told me it was semi Synthetic.
I did my oil changes as per the manual, IIRC 7500 Miles. I added a Quart about every 3000(when it was low) and changed the filter just for the hack of it.
When My rebuild came at 138,000 Miles it was because the radiator was boiling over when it was Hot, not overheating just Normal operating temp. I think I had a bad water jacket seal.

I do change every 3000 miles, which isn't that much more often than the specified 5000 miles.

My dealer uses 5w20 Castrol GTX. It's my understanding that any 5w oil is semi (or somewhat?) sythetic. My service advisor is adamant that there's not one thing on an RX-8 (engine, driveline) that needs synthetic.

I know this is a older post, but couldn't find a more fresh discussion on synthetic oils. "That was for the idiots who chime in and tell you , you are on an old board....Dah?.
I wanted to comment I am going to synthetic after researching this site. I think we are all inclined to believe the MFG .....until you start catching them in lies and BS stories . I have used 5-20 conventional oil for 49,000 miles. I have installed a failed OMP and I am going to switch to royal purple this week. I have 79,000 miles on a 2004 4 speed automatic (runs superb now).

, who listens to dealer service advisers? They generally know less than the counter workers at Autozone.Oh and RP is not worth the extra cost, you would be better running Castrol GTX. Just read the used oil analysis reports in the UOA thread I created.
