Trouble starting up? I need info

For the past month my 04' RX8 has had trouble starting up.. it clicks and and makes noise like it wants to turn on but takes a lil bit to turn over like 10 sec it doesn't sound like alot but compared to a car that starts right away its a lifetime.. Mazda told me to buy a new battery.. I took it to another place to get a second opinion and cuz they had the same battery for half the price, they said that wasn't my problem and the battery was fine after going back and forth telling each one what the other one said I decided to get the battery.. It didnt help the problem.. so the dealer said said get new spark plugs.. got em didnt help the start... now the dealer said I need a new starter and 4 new coils. Has anyone had the same or a similar problem?how did u handle it? and what kind of starter should I get (iv herd I should get a 05 or 06 RX8 starter) is that right for an 04? and If I can get them done cheaper at like Midas, would they know how to take car of an RX 8.. for instance let it idol till it heats up till its hot before they shut it off?

Miles?
Does the hard start happen all the time or just when hot or just when cold?

it won't be a starter...a starter will click but not turn over. It would probably be your coils since you've basically eliminated every other problem aside from a bad engine, but like DeViLbOi says, how many miles? Also, try using the search function since there's a no-start thread every 2nd day, all of which get answered so I'm sure you'll be able to find one that applies.

In case you do end up getting a starter...
Part # N3H1A, N3Z1, or N3H1-18-400R0A are from late 2005-2008

I wanna start off by saying thanks and that i do appreciate your advice.

The car has 60,000 miles on it, it has trouble starting up regardless of hot or cold, and has a brand new battery and new spark plugs.. and i'm getting new coils put in by Mazda for about a lil over $350, this monday the sept 13.. I'm a college student so im tight on money im gonna by the starter off line and follow a DYI to install it but.. I weary over what kind of starter i should buy the last thing I want to do is mess my car up. I herd i should replace my old starter with a 05 or 06 Rx8 starter. any info regarding any help would be great!

a starter is going to cost you 350 easy if you get the new one. Make sure make sure make sure you check part numbers so you get the upgraded model. I know it would seem like a good idea to find the lowest bidder but a lot of those are the previous models they are trying to get rid of. check your model numbers.

All starters have been upgraded.

Check a junk yard as it is your friend.

OP...Please fill out some DETAILS about yourself and Car, in User CP and or a Sig..

In the USA ALL starters are now re-mans and relatively cheap from a Mazda Dealers like Montgomery's $261 changeover Core of $75..

I take it you have a Manual??

N3H1-18-400R0A

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214264

Just watch which one you get from a Junk yard...I know I would rather get a new re-man than a used or abused starter.

If Coils have OVER 30,000 miles replace them. Original coils suck need revision B anyway.

Some Mazda dealerships don't even know how to take care of it...if Midas shuts it off cold and it floods, they'll fix it for free I'm sure. Go to a dealership and they'll just try selling you more stuff.

Buy a re-man starter. I got mine for $120 and it works fine. They replace all the parts that CAN be broken so I say go for it. I took my starter out and brought it to a guy who rebuilt it on the spot. Took him half an hour and he showed me every step.

Good luck. I'm assuming you have the starter DIY but in case you don't:

Oh and where he has the jack is a horrible place (at least for me...being 6'4"). try putting the jackstand on the front cross member so that it doesn't get in your way and make sure to undo the top bolt (the tougher one to get at) first since that'll keep the starter from falling on your head while you're fiddling with it last.

Keep us up to date.

i have similar problem just changed my plugs coils and wires and on my 3rd motor this one has less than 30k on it. my terminals on the battery had been coroded and cleaned and so sometimes it was having trouble starting but wiggled the terminals or cleaned them and it wuld start for couple weeks. then last week i turned my car off and i came back an hour later and it wouldnt even turn over but the car acted like there was no sign of battery problem; the only thing wrong was the car wouldnt even try turning over and when i turned the key the radio would reset. pop started it an figured it was the starter but then i tried it the next day and t started but as soon as it went off it did the same thing.

I think they want to replace his muffler bearings next, and possibly his blinker fluid.

Hey, I know this is prob the wrong thread to post this on but if you could help, Id be grateful!

I ran over a deer last week. The Rx8 is now vibrating when I hit the gas and the muffler shakes. I took it to midas and the guy who helped me was nice. He showed me the part which had been bent against the muffler. (it looks like a flat rectangular (not thick) bar) it is bolted to the car, right underneath the pipe that is connected to the exhaust)He said that part keeps the car inline and that I would have to get a new one if i wanted the car vibrations to stop. He said I can only get the part from mazda. I was wondering if anybody could help me figure out what this part maybe called. Does anyone know what I am talking about?? Id appreciate the help, Thanks!

I ran over a dead raccoon the other day thinking i could glide ride over and i failed lol. Ripped my undercover and drove around with that awful smell for a day or 2. Also had to wipe guts from the front and rear bumper...not that fun!

It is a support crossmember that does help keep the car square. However...I do know a number of members that drive without it.

I found a piece of paper from midas that helped describe it better. an under chassie brace, crosses under the exhaust. There are two on the car but i only need one which is located further toward the back. Does that still sound like the support crossmember

rofl, 2K to fix. but their techs for some reasons can do it for 800

give me 500 I do it for you, parts and labor included. and I'm serious

See my reply in your "other" thread

as for your starter, if you don't mind the quality then u better get one from Autozone, look for a 2007+ model, at least it spins faster than the one you quote
