So my 04 6MT has been in the shop for the last couple days and when i called today and asked for an update they told me there was no spark during ignition. It had been turning over but not firing for me for a couple days before I took it into the shop to get it looked at. Anyone ever have this problem before? Any ideas I can give the shop to look at?

How did they check for no spark?
Was is on all four spark plugs?

No ignition can be a faulty or dirty Eccentric Shaft Positioning Sensor.
Might want to try cleaning that.

The only thing that will cut spark completely (to all 4 coils) is the eccentric shaft position sensor as Jon316G has stated. Could be dirty, could have bad wiring, could be bad altogether.
Have they checked spark at all four coils? If they have an no spark is apparent, then I would start there.

Thanks for your input guys, I really appreciate your input since I'm still a newbie at this rotary thing. I'll let the shop know what you guys thought and I'll update when I know more

A fuel flood condition can also give the appearance of no ignition current. Make sure it's not flooded and most importantly try to take your car to a shop that has experts in your vehicle type.

We could help you better if you explain what happened or what you did when the car wouldn't start for you. Knowing the situation prior to it being in the shop might give us better insight.

I'm not sure how they checked for no spark, sorry for the brief history. I was backing out of my garage after letting the car warm up for about 5 minutes or so, which probably wasn't enough since it was about 10 degrees that day it stalled on me for some reason (I'm new to rotary but not to manual driving) about 2 feet out of my driveway and wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs myself and put a new battery in but it still wouldn't start. I haven't done any mods to the motor and has about 5000 miles on it since the new one was put in sept 08.=

Sounds like you flooded it.

It definitely sounds like you flooded your engine. There are ways to de-flood the car per our forum's recommendations. Search "Flooding" and you'll pop up at least 100 different threads talking about this.

As a rule of thumb:

- Don't turn off the car until the temperature gauge has reached it's final resting position - about 11 o'clock.

- Make sure you battery is in good condition. Trying to de-flood the car requires cranking the car ALOT. This is a big no-no for most batteries and you might need a stout one to get you de-flooded.


Your motor should be fine. It's a common issue and most people have gone through it at least once.....except me....since I was on this forum BEFORE I got my car. I don't even let valet park my car for this exact same reason.

yeah i figured I had flooded it and I tried all the de-flooding tricks I could find, except cleaning the sensor which the shop is supposed to be doing tomorrow morning. Stupid place has had it since Tuesday and haven't done anything to it yet cuz the guy that works on rotary had a baby last week

There are a lot of things it still could be. But........if you just flooded it, then sometimes it takes some work to get it deflooded. As someone said............look(search) around for "flooding" and you'll see. Probably the most important is getting the plugs DRY.
