My "2004" RX 8, AT 4 speed problem. Need help!!! :banghead:
Hi everyone!
I just bought my RX two month ago. It's 2004 japan production, 4 speed automatic, and 27,000 km mileage.
The Problems:
1)
One day when i was driving at speed 80 km/h, 4th gear (final gear), i tried to floor the pedal (kick down) for the first time.
Suddenly my car was felt like "being hit by another car from behind" and with a hammer sound from my under seat, but the car was still moving.
i realized that it will always happen if the transmission changing from high gear to low gear (4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st)
and i put it to much throttle (floor the pedal).
Stop and go. If i move the **** from (N) to (D) position, the transmission react slow and the car "only" moving after 3 second i put the **** in D position.
And if i too rush to give some throttle (before 3 second) the feeling of "being hit by another car from behind" and the hammer sound happen again.
I have change whole the transmission oil (9 litres, if i'm not wrong) either the engine oil but it didn't solve the problem.
Also, i checked the engine mounting, but it still in good condition, so no problem from it.
actually what happen in my transmission?
2)
My steering seems have a problem too. It's light to turn left but heavier to turn right (some time with vibration, light-heavy-light-heavy feeling)
i have check the steering fluid, it's enough and in the proper level. Do the sensor cause the problem?
I hope you guys will reply me shortly. Honestly, i didn't check carefully when i bought this car, i was so exited and impatient to brought it home.

Until now, the only warning light that ever comes out is the "red color" water level light (like bird cage) but it only does when i in high rpm.
Yes, my car is a used car. I just did the maintenance two weeks ago by the dealership.
i ask them to flush all the transmission oil, engine oil etc. but i don't feel any better.
After that they guess that the transmission's oil filter (stainer if I'm not wrong) inside the transmission need to be replace. and to do that they need to take down whole the transmission.
Do you think they have giving me a correct advise?
oh, by the way, where the steering sensor cable lies? under the air intake?

The 3 seconds it takes for the AT trans to get from P to D is normal. The hammer sound is not normal. Sounds like you need a new tranmission.
When my AT got hit on the driver side the power steering unit got damaged and had to be changed. My power steering would go out when driving. The unit was over $1,000.
If it your power steering unit was bad you should have the power steering malfunction indicator light on your dash like your coolant light you have on now.
