Seals out on motor w/80 k
I've got an 04 8 and love it. The seals are going out in the motor and coolant is leaking in making it hard to start.
I was thinking of getting a rebuilt one and a friend suggested rebuilding it myself / putting new seals in.
I"m not very familiar with rotory's, wondering if it's something like a head gasket that can just be put in.
Thanks for your input.

Based on what you wrote, my advise is to do a rebuilt engine or a known used engine with low miles. Would not suggest attempting a rebuilt on your own. Doing a rotary rebuilt is nowhere close to doing a cylinder head gasket.

Sorry for this but I can't start a thread of my own. My engine has lost an oil control ring and I want to rebuild it. Now before you say buy a new engine rather than rebuild I have rebuild many engines, although they were piston engines, but there had to be a first time for all rotary engine builders. The best way to learn in my opinion is hands on. So to the question. Let's assume my irons and housings and rotors are re-usable. What Atkins kit do I need to replace all seals and gaskets, new oil control rings and apex seals? I can see some people telling me not to attempt a rebuild please don't. I have been searching for this information for about a month and a half only threads I could find were people asking and then many people telling them not to rebuild it. I have read countless threads that end like this hoping to find the answer I need at the end of very long threads that lead nowhere

Get a Mazda Engine Rebuild manual for the Renesis...it has the spec's and the parts you need for a rebuild
I would stick to OEM Mazda seals unless you are planning to go Turbo or have some other reason. They are a lot better for a normal build than aftermarket ones in a Renesis
If you look at the parts list and the prices you might want to at least consider a rebuild or Reman engine. They used to be about the same price as the parts
I did a NA rebuild that I used a Mazda Reman for the core..it had new housings and made a great core. Can't say much about the side seal clearances though

My 2006 rx8 is showing low compression, and hard to start when warm.
so I look into rebuilding, and here’s the response I get:A new remanufactured engine from MAZDA goes for 8999$ as of today but have no availability. It could become available in a week or more than 18 months in some case. The price could be higher at the time of receiving the engine depending on how long it take them to provide it. In order to the the job within a week you would need to front 9000$ for the engine and wait an unknown time and only make you make you come in when it gets here.
We do not feel comfortable fronting this amount nor do we like the idea of having you transfert to us such amount without knowing when you will see the engine. Combining the engine and the 20 to 25 hours of labor at 129 ( 2580$-3225$ ) the job will be at least 11,580$ +tx supposing absolutely nothing goes wrong during the project.
We would have loved to do your car but the distance is an issue we can not oversee considering the financial and time restraint assossiated. We recommend dealing with your local MAZDA dealer to do the job properly will give you similar result and pricing without those restraint.
WOW.
good thing I don’t count on this car, for now, I will only take it where I can leave it 15 min between starts.
