Pre-lube starting procedure?

Slap my hand if I'm way off on this one. Putting two and two together. According to all the new flashes oil is injected before the engine fires upon start up. Also, according to the deflood procedure, holding the gas pedal all the way in while cranking doesn't allow fuel into the chamber.

So... if you crank the engine for a few seconds (3, 5, ...?) with the gas floored are you pre-lubing chamber or destroying your seals?

Interesting question. Iirc, one of the more recent flashes actually does let it crank a short time before enabling the fuel injectors, so if that's true then it's already doing what you propose. The problem with holding the pedal down every time (which it sounds like you're contemplating), is that you're adding some risk that the engine may actually start and then you're at WOT and may rev dangerously before you catch it.

I don't think that's a possiblity unless you aren't totally flooring the gas.

Never say never . Keep in mind this is the procedure for *starting* the car if it's flooded. So, in the eventuality that there is some residual gas in the chambers for whatever reason (cold shutdown, leaky injectors), it could fire. You release the key, and the injectors come online. Your foot is still pegging the gas pedal. How long before the situation registers?

Not saying it's gonna happen, but you still point a gun *away* from yourself even if you *know* it's not loaded.

the oil squirts before you even turn it to start. if you are very quiet you can hear the fuel pump prime and the injectors squirt when you turn the key to "ON". holding the pedal down and turning the key to start you are lubing the seals. but i wouldnt recommend that for more than a moment. when starting you should just keep your foot away from the go pedal

That was the first sign of my engine going. The updated starter solved it for 3 months... then....

i used to talk about this all the time- i call it initializing© ™- whenever im getting in the car i turn the key to ON then put on my seat belt and get comfortable THEN i START.

between the time i turned the key to on and actually start the car is "initializing"- that allows for the Dash lights to all turn on then off (as they are supposed to- if one stays on thats a problem. lately the coolant light was staying on for an extra minute. i filled it a little and voila it shuts off like its supposed to)

its also during this time you can here the pump "prime" the injectors do their thing etc. The vdi might even move. There is a check of the Throttle position. Its only a couple of seconds but i find it worth it to let it do its thing while i get adjusted etc.

Ive done this on all my Fuel Injected cars and it seems to work for me.
