Okay I've just found a filter that Series 1 owners with the increased oil pressure regulator and an oil sandwich plate can use.

It's made by Wix, it's the same exact size as the Series 1 filter but has a 23PSI bypass valve pressure setting. I was at work and my buddy with a Suburu (uses the same filter as Series 1) ordered some in because it's a new filter they made with a higher bypass valve pressure for the Subies.

The only downside is that you have to order them in cases of 12, but I can get them where I work at for cheap. If anyone is interested in getting some of these shoot me a PM, they're much cheaper than Mazda filters but the quality is still top notch.

You do know the engine oil pressure has nothing to do with the bypass pressure on the filter right ?

Of course. And of course not. The filter bypass pressure is a pressure drop across the filtering element. The engine oil pressure (and volume) rises in proportion to rpm until the system bypass opens. When the system bypass opens, no further increase in volume flow happens. One presumes that the stock S1 filter bypass is set in such a way that it does not open with warm-oil, max flow at the stock system bypass of 70 psi. Bumping the S2 pressure to 120 psi, also increases oil flow rates in the range of 70-120 psi over the S1 system. Likely the resisitance presented by the smaller element at the higher flow rate is enough to open the S1 filter bypass. Otherwise, there would have been no need to make the larger, higher-bypass-pressure S2 filter.

Yeah i know that its because of the other oil return valve before the filter but i would think that increasing oil pressure would cause a greater pressure drop across the element as well no? Personally I would rather have a higher bypass valve rating reguardless.
