I am in for 2 of these if they work on MS6's and 2010 MS3's. Thank you for sharing!

It might though, as all the CAN bus readings I take are standard OBD2 PIDs.

Fantastic creation, nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. If you can send it out to the UK i'm definitely up for one. You will have a big fan base for this over the pond :D

Add features, mass produce these, make them updateable if necessary?

I will definitely buy one if the price is right. Offer them in other languages even? As there is a good european rx8 scene

One thing I will say is that we dont have the tyre pressure monitors on our cars so you may wish to confirm that we tap into the same loom etc?

Please please please make this as this will become an infamous base modification that with further developement EVERY modified rx8 will incorparate, especially if the price is as good as the product :D

I don't have the complete wiring diagram so I am not sure where the closest place is to tap into the CAN bus on the UK model. Perhaps someone can dig this up?

Is there any chance of you offering a stripped down version with just the ability to control what the display says? Maybe if you took out the stuff for the OBDII interface, you could fit a USB port on there so we could control the display using a laptop.

I've been looking for something like this forever. I don't care at all about the OBDII stuff. Eventually I want to put in a Car-PC, and I'd prefer to have all the OBDII stuff on there. However, since I'm keeping my stock headunit, something to control the display would be awesome. It wouldn't even have to be all pretty and enclosed in a box, since the stripped down one would be installed behind the console. The USB cable could be stuffed into the glove box or something so that people could access it when needed.

I guess you could also do without the USB port, and just have a dial that controlled the letters and characters. You could also have the buyers send you the stuff they want and just program it in before you send it out. However, both of those sound harder than the USB, and with both of them, you'd have to enclose it and make it look pretty as well.

Anyway, I'm really interested in this product, stripped down or not. I'm just waiting to hear pricing.

Also, you should come and start a thread on 6crew.com about this. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested. I'm a sponsor over there already, so I'd be more than happy to help you sell them so that you can avoid the hassle of setting all that up with them.

This is something I will look into once I get a few of current design built.

I can't comment on pricing yet since I don't have a group buy thing going, and also I have no idea yet how much it is going to cost me to build these.

Sweet. I'm so looking forward to more details, but I'll have to be patient.

Let me know if you need any help. I've never dealt with electronics manufacturers, but I do have a business name and license and all that already that I use, so if that helps the talks with manufacturers, I'm more than willing to lend a helping hand. I'm always happy to donate my time to get this thing rolling.

Out of interest, are you using the ATmega128-16AI ?

One thing I would consider in a production model:
Easy of upgradability - JTAG isn't everybody's cup of tea

Would be interesting to combine with something like FuelCAN to give fuel economy.

Nope - AT90CAN

Sign me up! I'm ready to send you a check or paypal right now. Just tell me the price! And if you need a tester for a 2008 'speed3, I'll be happy to help out there too.

Wow, I am very interested in this. Some thoughts:

- I would love to have additional inputs (for things like proper oil temp & pressure, water temp, etc.). Am I right in concluding that there might be possibility for up to 4 extra inputs? I see from the AT90CAN datasheet that it has 7 ADC pins, with 4 available when using JTAG.
- A bare unit without case might be useful, in order to simplify custom fitment (e.g ashtray panel).
- Whereabouts exactly does it tap into the CAN lines at the moment? If you have doubts about where UK/Euro models route a CAN loom, due to absence of tyre pressure sensors, I might be able to figure something out from the factory service manual I have on CD.

@Whiterat: not sure about fuel economy display - might be a bit depressing!

It still amazes me that there is such a underground of people who put the heart and soul into such projects as this one. It makes me wonder how many other tuners are out there with their own "DIY" work that is not being shown to the world. An excellent product for sure. Two thumbs up.
