Maybe I missed it, but would the alarm/buzzer work for any and all guages, even if they are not being displayed? So If the ECT reaches a preset temp the buzzer sounds and the ect is diplayed at the same time. And who can set when the buzzer goes off? Would the buyer have to tell you what he/she wants at the time of purchase?
As of now the warning is just for the boost gauge, but the final product will let you enable and set a warning level for all measurements.

Also... i would personally love a toned down version of the kit that is nothing more than you'd need to tie it to an aurdino (or similar). Even if you don't want to make the shield, just the interface and some documentation would kick ***.

I know you spent a lot of time reversing this yourself, so i'd completely understand if you weren't interested in sharing the information. I'd be just as likely to buy either option, personally, i'd just love the ability to implement custom displays.
I do indeed have speedo info. What do you mean though? Overspeed is different in different speed zones.

I will look into opening up the spec later...

Right now the circuit board is crammed full of stuff, so there is no room for a serial port connector, not even for solder pads for it. If there is enough interest, I could design a bigger board, but I will have to find a larger enclosure as well...

The GTO's and Camaro's just let you set a speed you want to be alerted at. Mostly for highway driving, where you lay into it to pass someone and then look down to see you're doing 90+. You can set it to alert at say, 85, to let you know that you're probably in danger of blue lights.

Yeah that would be no problem to add. I'll put it on my todo list. Thanks!

So the OBD2 spec contains upto 3 different sets of wires for 3 different ways of communicating with the car's PC. The RX8 only implements one, the most modern one called the CAN bus (controller area network). This is done with 2 wires that run all over the car, including the OBD2 connector. I tap into these, but not at the OBD2 connector. Rather I tap near the tire pressure system, which is close to the LCD display.

So the short answer is yes, this is OBD2 based, but I don't take up the OBD2 port, so the install is invisible if for example you were to get your emissions tested.

I'm unable to describe how much I want one of these for my Speed3. As long as it costs less than a DashHawk, I'm in. FYI, this thread is getting linked from some of the other Mazda forums.

Excellent job!

I signed up on the board just to follow this thread (I have a Mazda 3....)

If you don't produce built units, a kit would be nice.... board, components, pre-programmed chip....

If you have a confidential schematic, I can get an overseas quote on your unit from China. As an import broker, I would only charge a 5% commission on every unit you import. You take title of all goods. I just facilitate the transaction. Confidential agreements would be in place.

Amazing work, Pieter. If you need someone to test out on a Mazdaspeed6, hit me up. And put me down as interested in buying one should you confirm they work.

One thing I'd recommend is having a decent tech writer develop instruction sheets for you, so that installation is easier than a lot of the products out there. Just a thought.

Do you know if this will work for the 2010 Mazda 3?
I would be willing to give you a deposit to test one out.
