Reman engine has used parts in them.

and most of the "used" parts are the parts that had some love with oil already.

So I wouldn't worry too much

You can go easy on it for couple hundred miles. but for me, I let mine go 500 miles then I switch the crap 5w20 out for some Synthetic love (drain n fill 2 times)

I have been using Idemitsu pre-mix since about 80k miles. With about 130k miles on my 2004 MT now I can easily tell that my car runs much smoother with more consistent power than it did between 60k-80k miles when I think cardbon build up on my intake was killing it. My oil metering pump seems to work just fine as I use a healthy amount of oil when I keep the revs high. So, I use only about 3 ounces to a 13 gallon fillup. Every 6 months or so I switch from Idemistu to Marvel Mystery oil and run 4-6 ounces per tank of that to clean things out. ... and no it does not hurt the cat. Mine car still has the original cat at 130k miles.

Hope that helps. I credit pre-mix, regular high revs, and semi anual cleaning with MMO with my continued 9000rpm induced silly grin.

Yep. I know there are folks who think it is snake oil and other who think it is somehow harmful. I also know than my engines have lasted a long time, been cleaner on tear down, and are smoother running. My last vehicle was a 1991 Explorer. I had 268k miles on it when I traded it in and I ran MMO the whole time I had it. I drove my 1977 Camaro for 8 years running the stuff. The engine for that car sat in my garage for nearly 10 years. When I gave it to my father-in-law last year he rebuilt it and was suprised at how clean the inside of that old 305 was.

When carbon build up was choking my Renesis a couple of years ago I threw several tank fulls of Techron at it and then began pre-mixing with Idemitsu and using MMO every 6 months or so as a maintanance cleaner. At 130K miles now my car is still running smooth. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Paul, that was very helpful. Thank you. I may experiment with a higher amount than 4 oz just to try things out. Finding a container that can hold 6 oz or more should prove challenging.

I also noticed that my idle is more stable and the revs seem more responsive. My startup also seem to be smoother using Idemitsu premix.

On another note, it sounds like you're still on the original, original engine on the car. If thats the case, feel free to fill in this questionnaire:

Hello everyone, this would be my first post on here, have had my RX8 for quite some time but never really looked at any forums till now that Shes paid off.

I have been using Mobil 1 Full Sunthetic Oil 10w-30 since 70k Miles and now Shes 107k with no issues at all, I also notice that my MPG went up from 17 city to around 18/19, Ive always used 93 Octane Fuel. My car is completely stock but not for long, Im hopping to better this MPG issues. lol

Hoping Paul is still following for this question since he mentioned the current lack of zinc and other additives in motor oil which used to provide much better protection. This product just hit my radar and I'd love to hear some thoughts from those of you with much more rotary experience than I.

Or would this 5w-40 be a better move?:
Some qualifying info about my rx8: previous owner was religious about 5w-20 dino-based every 3k miles. I've had car for 1k miles and odometer just rolled over 50k. If I switch should I perform an ATF or SeaFoam clean first and obviously change plugs at same time. Or would the cleaning drastically increase the risk of leaks as previously mentioned in thread compared to just switching to one of these oils?

Thanks 9krpmrx8! I'm pretty sure the niche they are trying to fill with this product relates to the reintroduction of Zinc in the Oil. I apologize if I didn't emphasize that enough. Would the Zinc in this product prove to be a positive or a negative in our rotaries...what with the wear noted on expo's bearing surfaces?

ZDDP was removed from oils because it poisons cat converters. If you decide to go that route, midpipe or Sohn adapter would be good first.

Also, it should also be known that Expo1's rebuild after this failure also failed despite premixing, regular oil changes using Royal Purple, redlining daily, never driving it cold, etc. He also told me he never really got a chance to track his new motor so he was really bummed when it failed prematurely.

ZDDP is good stuff, but thx to Tree huggers we no longer have this excellent stuff in our oil (or very little)

but it seems that SN grade oil is trying to "change" that, does it work? no one knows, gotta wait and see.

P.S. : it feels like I just created this thread yesterday... *sigh*

Seriously man there are several threads about this stuff and there is no real answer so there is no point in asking. Some of us did everything possible (warm ups, synthetic, SOHN, etc.) to prevent a failure and still suffered one and some treated theirs like **** and lasted to 100k. We all have opinions on oil but they don't mean jack **** really because no one here (or anywhere for that matter)has done any scientific testing on a large number of available oils.

I have a thread on used oil analysis tests and a thread on failure theories, take a peek at those and the million other threads on oils, maintenance recommendations, etc. and decide yourself which oil to use and how to maintain your car.
