Good advice.

Is there a thread with a diagram or any documentation on the master/slave clutch setup on the RX8.
I'm not familiar with the inner working. Or that there was a master/slave at all

There is a slave cylinder direct-mechanically actuated by the clutch pedal and then hydraulically to the clutch itself (rod attached to the clutch pedal assembly that engages the slave cylinder immediately on the engine bay side of the firewall).

The master cylinder serves as the hydraulic reservoir for both the brakes and clutch, with the brakes being typically indirect-diaphram/hydraulically actuated, hence the clutch being the 'slave.'

Thanks zoomidid, That's just what I was looking for,

I've eye balled the fluid and it's loevly and clear. Although a touch over the max line.
I'll consult the manual and report back later.

I believe that the Slave cylinder is located on the Transmission and articulates the arm that pushes the throw out bearing. Mazda calls this cylinder a "Clutch Release Cylinder"

Seems to be getting stuck at various stages of release. There's a audible knock every so often which I think is the some part unsticking.

Pretty scary driving in bad traffic with a dodgy clutch.

The pedal and brackets all seem fine. The sound is coming from just behind the firewall.
I'm going to try squeeze my head in under it tomorrow and see can I see anything

I'll bet it is. I once had to drive my '56 Ford Pickup about 100 miles with no first gear. Clutch was fried when I got it home.

^ I had to drive my '77 Celica a long distance with no first gear, but in my case it was a broken shifter fork (just one side). Thanks to mostly non-stop highway trip I didn't fry my clutch and a weld later I was back in business.
