Gas/Oil Premix Thread
Doing some proper testing on an engine dyno would be awesome to gather some hard data in a scientific way.
Since all it's reasonable to do is going the empirical way i guess that statistics are our only true friend.
RIWWP and New Yorker are both right with their statements, however i think that there's enough empirical data to draw some approximate conclusions on whether premix is useful or not.

I really just need to go with idemitsu soon, It seems like the obvious best choice.
Paimon I've had several people ask me if whatever I am pouring in my tank helps with gas mileage, but they have no idea it is 2 stroke oil. I tried explaining what it was and why I am using it since they were curious but they all get lost when I say rotary.
^ I picked a bottle of that up today, as I couldn't find anymore of the one I first posted.

People using FP+ and are catless, have you noticed any change in the exhaust smell? Less harsh?

I haven't start premixing , but I did try zMax for $20.00 at Walmart.
I immediately:Eyecrazy noticed a jump in mileage per gallon. I was averaging 14.5 m/g and now i'm up to 17.5 m/g.... I did drive more highway, but the most m/g was 19.4 m/g.
This stuff is expensive but worth the money every 6000 miles they recommend.

A million rotary miles, using premix. NEVER a single rotary engine failure in any of those engines using premix. I have torn down engines with and without premix after heavy racing, and the proof was conclusive, the proper premix works.
There will always be nay sayers who want ever more proof. The fact is the right premix will help your engine last longer and gives a tiny bit better gas mileage to boot.
You can believe it or not, you can wait for somebody other than rotary experts Racing Beat and Pettit Racing who have extensively tested premix and gotten great results.
I know from nearly forty years of rotary experience, that is all I need. You can waffle about it,while I will continue to use it and have long lasting trouble free life with my rotary engines, while I read about blown and premature dead rotary engines.

Considering how much miles I've racked up in my original engine. I now get 13 mpg in the CITY and if I'm lucky around 16 mpg HIGHWAY at conservative speeds. But, this past weekend when I drove 175 miles non-stop to Barstow from Los Angeles, I maintained an average of 18.4 mpg at a HIGHWAY speeds of 80-87 mph. I think there's a sweet spot of getting a decent miles per gallon... At high speeds 

That's the mileage I got when my engine was around 110,000 miles ago.
Well, you know what they say about opinions. I think EVERYTHING about rotary is great. I just wish they were as easy to work on now as they were before they got overloaded with software.
People join this RX8 club and forum to share their experiences and learn about all aspects of the RX8. Both the good and the bad. I still say New Yorkers comment was stupid in the context of this forum.

What's stupid is all your hot air about testing and results and yet you never ever never ever never ever ever ever post a single anything that actual suggests you did any testing.
But wait that must be just me ... I'm one of those "nay sayers" ... obviously I'm crazy for wanting even the smallest amount of proof ... the insanity of it all.

How about you give us some pictures of these engine tear downs, one premix the other non-premix ...
How about a fuel graph that shows this tiny bit of improved fuel mileage
MAKE IT UP EVEN .... give us something!

Personally I'm on the fence with the premix thing ... If I'm filling up and I have some I will add it ... I'm hardly religious about it.
A stated by RIWWP ... none of this is conclusive without the testing procedure he described.

Well there was still plenty of carbon buildup but you can see. Also I am not 100% on my engine having 124k with no rebuild its just a guess becuase I didn't see a reman stamp on it.

Large colour difference, heat?
It's hard to compare the apex seals, I can't see them in the first pic
The corner seals are out in the second pic ... is that how the side of the rotor got so much cleaner?
